ok to help you, you need to make sure that you either have a modchip (bad idea) or you have a firmware flash mod on your 360 dvd drive, flash it and then use this tutorial for burning your games, you need the samsung SH-D162C to rip the games and then any dual layer dvd burner to burn them, doesnt matter but poineer is recomended

first go here and learn what firmware is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware
next go here and download the tutorial (it's the pdf link)
http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/get=61.html
basically, this hack works by flashing a hacked firmware (piece of software) on the dvd-rom chip so it can read burned/backed up games.
I don't Usenet, it uses me.

Ok, ive read through 30 pages of this thread and havent come across this question. but i apoligize if i missed it.
I've downloaded burnout revenge which gave me a .dvd file and a .000 file, i extracted both files to my desktop and used imageburn to burn the .dvd file onto my dl dvd and it worked great, w/o any problems
my question is this, i am in the process of downloading another file (game) which has 7 image files with the extensions .001, .002, .003, etc. each are 1 gig apiece it also has the .dvd file, and .nfo file . So do i simply select the .dvd file when i open up image burn to burn this game onto disc or what?
once again i know everyone gets pissed for others not reading, but like i said, ive read 30 pages of this thread and havent read anything with multiple image files. I'm assuming you just select the .dvd file but i just want to make sure so i dont wind up making a coaster!

please remember that the .dvd file is more or less a cue, if you open it in a text editor, such as notepad, you'll see the 1st line contains the layerbreak info and all of the line(s) below that are the the name(s) of the image(s) that make up the whole backup. just open the .dvd file w/ imgburn and burn.

Thanks for the quick reply gehex! I'm new to all of this, this will only be the 2nd burn attempt for me, and the multiple image files just threw me off.

Has anyone done a compilation of which burners are good? I already have a Kreon'd Samsung reader. But I *REALLY* dont want to have to build a new machine for my archival purposes beyond the box I already have for my archives of dvd5's. At the time I bought what I thought were the supreme dual layer burners, 2 plextor px-740a's. I plan on using the kreon'd reader in a usb case, and hope to be able to use ethier of the plex 740a's to do my writing needs. Of course I got the Pioneer 111 posts from all over the web, but seing as I DONT have my 360 yet, and am attempting to save enough cash to grab everything at once, -- > (console, controllers, 5-6 WORTHY titles, archive solution), Its time to look for the burner and I'm just trying to use what I have. Anyways, sorry to long wind, someone got a "this burner" has worked and with this media link, that would rock...
Thanks

why not try the px-740a out first and if it doesn't seem to work, look for another drive.
if the px-740a doesn't work, I'd honestly go w/ a pioneer drive.....I have a pioneer 108 and it works great...as for media, stick w/ verbatim.

Was just trying to get ahead of my self. A bad trait. :)
I did a little of-site research and found that the Plextor 740a is one of the first plextors to adopt the benq chipset instead of the sanyo found in most plextors. Because of this, I was able to locate both Nero's CD-DVD speed and the benq Book Type Manager 8.4. Both of these applications loaded up specs on both drives (under Vista Business) and under the bitsetting screen, I was able to locate controls for setting the book type defaults for DVD+R, +rw, +r-dl (all changeable to dvd-rom or left as +r, +rw, +r-dl).
(to help anyone else looking for Book Type Management 8.4 which will help you determine if your drive will write the 360 archival backups, heres where I got it -> http://support.benq.com/files/Stora...ment%20v8.4.zip )
My last concern is if Vista is ready to control my drives without getting in the way and screwing it all up. Blindwrite seems to work, and I dont know of any dvd buring software that brute forces better than Blindwrite so they might have Vista working now. ?Coments, anyone else using Vista?
Like you said, now all there is to do is do it. Im still waiting on my 360 to arive, I bought one from a a$$hole on ebay that got pissy with me because after I paid for the auction 45 seconds after winning it, I asked if they would ship it as fast as I paid for it. I was rewarded with a "I was going to box it, but since your so rude, I think I'll hold onto it for the max 10 days before I ship it" Yes assholes all over the world. Its the first time I ever had someone complain I paid to fast and expecting them to have the item boxed and ready to ship before it actually sold was just unheard of"

Looking at Ebay for this drive.
There are many options it seems.
Do I want one pre-flashed with V.81 ?
Thanks

Yeah,
that one would be best,
but you could get an unflashed one and flash it yourself

ok so i did the stealth check with xbox backup creator and it says
video is questionable!
pfi is present!
dmi is present!
ss is present!
stealth check passed!
1. what does it mean by video is questionable?
2. so i assume i dont need to use ss merger v1.5 since ss is already present?(am i correct in that)
3. and if im correct then i just need to go ahead and burn a copy?

hi im new to this forum. iv singed up for many forums to try and get my questions answered and so far iv only gotten links to other forums where i still can't find answers...
ok before i start i want to say i sort of know what i am doing with these. i know how to download nzbs, fix with pars(if needed) and burn using .dvd with clonecd (i dont use imgburn because i get a weird error when it tries to finalize the disk and i have to spam "retry" to get it to finalize and sometimes it doesnt work). i think my 360 drive is hitachi and i think i have xtreme firmware. i have gone through almost 20 dvds and iv burned probly about 5 successfull games.
here is what i do step by step to get my above results:
1. i find an nzb thats labled as NTSC or USA. i make sure it comes with pars and then i download it
2. after its downloaded i run quickpar and have it check everything and have it do the repairs if repairing is needed.
3. i unrar the folder to my desktop and i get a couple things. i always get an image file. either an iso, .000 or a .360(which im not sure how to deal with). i most of the time get a .dvd file. sometimes i get an SS, DMI and a PMI or something like that and i have NO idea what the DMI and PMI are for
4. if i get an iso with a .dvd file i'll then burn the iso using the .dvd and clonecd. sometimes i'll get real lucky and the game will play without problems. but most of the time it will say unreadable disk and i have no friken idea why.
i have done some research and iv read that games that are pre-patched only need to be unrared and burned to work. it would be nice if every game came like this and worked however i have no idea how to tell if a game has been pre patched (and sometimes when i burn them they dont even work! ). nor do i know how to patch it unless thats merging the SS file which i explain in this next paragraph...
i have also read that if it's not patched you need the SS file thing that comes with it. either that or u have to find the SS for the game. THEN you put the iso and the ss into xbox360 ssmerger program hit merge, wait and it will poop out a .dvd you can use to burn the game. This worked for me once actualy however it must have been a stroke of luck because i didnt know what i was doing lol. also with the ssmerger program theres 2 long numbers that are supposed to be green and matching showing you have the right ss for the game, i have yet to find an ss that makes the feilds match, even some of the ss that come with the iso dont match so you can understand my confusion ; ; if anyone could shed some light on some of these issues that would be very cool. thanks a lot!

@chnky18
just try burnign the game to a disk,
if it doesnt work id suggest just downloading a different upload of the game.
@alien1583
The DMI and PMI are not really needed, there just stealth patches, most people do prefer them though.
Everytime you get a game from nzb run a stealth check in Xbox Backup Creator
You should find that most games going around the internet now are prepatched,
and that might be the reason why you can never find to matching ss files,
if the CURRENT SS box has numbers in (on ss merger) then you wont have to patch it
If you dont already have it download and install Xbox Backup Creator
I had lots of problems with clonecd,
It would only ever compelte burning a few games,
And half the games it did compelte my xbox wouldnt recognize
I moved on to Xbox Backup Creator about a month ago and havnt had one bad burn.
