Does the layer switch affect data (mp3 files) in any way? In other words does the mp3 mess up at the layer change or will it play back just fine? I'm planning to use Verbatim media....

If you use verbatim media, you will have the least chance of that happening, but it really depends on your setup (burner, disks are excellent, and the player. If you dont mind answering, why do you need to burn mp3s onto a DL dvd, why not just put the mp3s on 2 quality single layer disks like verbatims or Taiyo Yudens? It would be so much more cost effective as DL dvds are extremely expensive and are a lot less supported in many players.

Some of the BookSharers (an audiobook trading group on Yahoogroups) but not all of the 2 DVD distro's would fit on a dual layer disc which is why I asked the question. Right now they are copied to single layer discs. Sony at the moment then later TY's when the Sony's run out.

Are those sonys 8x Made in Japan? It says so on the spindle near the upc code. If they are, you have got some genuine TYs. Also you will have TYs if you have 16x sony MIJ but it must have a white octagonal spacer, not a round circular one.

No these are MIT Made in Tiawan. They burn & read back (both data & video) just fine burned at either 8x or 4x. They are 8x discs...

Though not exactly what you're trying to do, I have had complete success burning .avi files to dual-layer media (for play in my Philips DVP642 standalone). The layer break doesn't make the player hiccup at all, and I've used both Ritek and Verb DL media. My guess is it would be similar for a disc loaded with .mp3s.

Yeah, the sony disks are actually decent media, especially being from sony as they seem to put out less than par products besides media related stuff it seems.
