Guys, I have a v14 ps2 and attemted to mod it myself (I'm studying to become an Electronics Tech.) with a Matrix Infinity. All was going well until I got to points B, F, H, AND I; click link to see pic.
I used 30 AGW wire, which is very small and frail, on all points except ground and 3.3v. Now points B, F, H, and I are very, very small holes (the pic is blown up). But the points on my board are filled by the paint that covers the board. Me and a couple of other advanced students tried to pierce and expose the soder points so that we could insert and soder the wire to those points. Of course we were unsuccessfull. The problem we were having was not being able to find a tool that was small enough to remove the paint that fills the holes so they are exsposed as they are in the pic above. These points are the only ones that are left to be sodered.
If you have successfully modded a v14 or any version of the slimline, please tell me how and what tool was used to create the holes for the points that I've mentioned.
Well, I was so unsuccessfull modding my ps2the area in which points B, G, H, and I where in was just to small; well at least for the size of the solder tip that I was using. The mods on the internet must have a special size solder tip. All the other points, although very small themselves, I had no problem with. Its just that B G H AND I were so close together, that when I did manage to get 2 of the points soldered, the heat from the iron would melt the two points I had soldered while trying to solder the third point also I had the problem with solder to points together
Now I hope when I put it back together it will work(play only originals). If so, I sell it for about $90 and buy a new one but this time let an exerienced modder do it
James thanks for bringing this up, I succesfully modded my v4 without even picking up a soldering iron prior to doing so. Now my buddy wants me to modd his and it is a v14. I just took it apart and saw the B/G/H/I spots and think I might change my mind. I may attempt to burn the paint off but Im too scared to use a knife cause i think i will damage the motherboard. James did you get yours to work yet?
you don't fuck your motherboard up easily.
But you have to be carefull that you don't scratch the paint off the motherboard next to the B/G/H/I spot. Because if you do you have another ground point, and if you're ganna solder that B/G/H/I spot, you will easily bridge the ground to that B/G/H/I spot.
Hope you understood that, guess my english isn't good.
Inline I see what you're saying, thanks for that tip too because I was going to scratch off the paint in the whole section where those points are located you can see this picture shows that the whole section was scratched off at the B/G/H/I target points on the v14.
I have tried to do what u said and just remove the paint from the points, but when i try to tin the points the solder doesnt take to it. It just ends up accumulating on the iron tip. Is this because there isnt enough metal exposed?
