I tried sliding the tab, however I slid it too far to the right and now the tray won't open.
Is it possible to rectify this?

The white tab.

Ok from the lack of information I'm going to assume you are using the slide tool to open the disc tray on an old PS2...

Not too sure as I've never heard of people who's done this before, maybe you need to open the PS2 up and get the thing back in the right postion?

Maybe..or maybe by luck I could get it back in place anyway.
I plan on ordering a fliptop for it soon anyway.

I didnt think it was possible to slide to far with the proper slide tool, due to its shape. Are you pulling the tray open with the slide card or trying to press eject?

I'd be careful when you try to force open it like that... might break something, I still think opening the PS2 to unlock whatever's locked is a better idea

yes definately do not force anything, When I asked if you were pulling the tray out with the slide card I wasnt implying that you just rip it out, I was making sure you knew that you had to use the card to pull the tray out and not the eject button. I still dont see how you can slide to far though, its not physicly possible with the proper slide card.

Yeah I agree with kiwi1 here... looking at my slidecard (the proper one), there's just too many parts that could get in the way of pushing that white tab thing too far, you may have done something close to that thing though...

I accidentally broke my white tab using the slide tool. If that's what actually broke, you can always crazy glue it back, BUT you'll probably need to flip top your PS2 now, since it'll be too fragile to manipulate the piece with a slide tool. I had to do an improvised flip top. It's not fancy but it's functional! lol

Open it up. If the part is broken (you can see it just by lifting the tray a bit) and you can't see the white tip, you can unlock the tray by forcing the white strip to the right. You'll notice the tray coming out by itself, until the white lock is completely loose (it's not exactly lose, it's just not locked up by anything and it has free movement. This is perfectly normal!) After it's unlocked, the tray will simply open without stopping if you press eject, since the strip is the locking mechanism the whole system uses to know whn the tray is in place.

The tray has a path the white strip followes through and depending on it's placing, the lens will start lifting up until it eventually locks in place for reading. The white strip also locks the tray's motor and doesn't let it burn up by pushing the tray in further than it should.

So, if you broke the little piece, not all is lost. You can either buy the piece again for about $20 bucks or crazy glue it for 1 or 2. But I'd hold down on using backups until the flip top arrives. After it's well glued, the PS2 should function as it normally does, but the part will break easily with the slide tool.

I haven't opened my ps2 yet,but I think I know what happened:
When I was attempting to slide the tab,I accidentally pushed down on the little black part under the tray, that fell under the tray.
I'm not sure, but I think the tab is either blocked by the black part or stuck behind it.
