Been searching with no luck so I figured I'd ask you guys about this.
I'm trying to finish FF7 so I can finally watch the movie advent children.
However, when I put the game into my new ps2, the slim version, I'm getting a green tint to the game that is very much annoying...this is happening with all my old ps1 games.
right now the ps2 is hooked up to my viewsonic lcd tv via the ycrcb hookups using a madcatz cable.
Any ideas as to why this is happening??? Because I'd rather play this on my ps2 instead of my old ps1 because its old and worn out and can't keep a steady brightness to the games.

I'd suggest going out and buying an official ps2 ycrcb hookup. Madcatz isn't always a trust worthy brand. Or it could be your ps2 laser, for your sake I hope it's not the laser.

Does this problem only happen with ps1 games or is it ps2 games too? Have you tried hooking up your ps1 with your madcatz cable to see if it too will come out looking green?
Component video has a lot of cables to plug in, and it is very easy to plug in a cable in the wrong connection. I would double check you connections on your TV also.

You should try it with the PS1, that would at least eliminate or classify the PS2 as the problem.

Q, ps1's are incompatible with component...but I tried it anyways and couldnt get any picture...got a monster cable coming for the ps2 so we'll see if that helps.
I'm beginning to think that the ps1 games just wont play right via a component hook up

I'm going to a friends house and he has an HDTV with a component cable... I'll bring along a ps1 game and see how it works.

well, try and play it without hd, see if that works, if not, then the only thing I can conclude is that the laser is bad, by the way is the slimeline a v12, because v12's have been known to have laser problems.
Even thouhg the official didn't fix it, at least now your official.

I really doubt that a bad laser would be the cause of your problem. All a laser will do is transfer data. It will not confuse one color with another if it's bad. If it is bad, it will not work. Period.
I still have not tried out any of my PS1 game on component video so you can't rule out that there is already an underlying problem with the console itself. It could also be that maybe one of the gates on your PS2's motherboard could be damaged and is making it output these faulty colors.
If anything, I would attribute your problems to faulty hardware.

I'm thinking I'm going to have to go with faulty hardware...because I've played the games on my ps2 just fine via composite...I just wish I still had an operable fatty ps2 to test it on....but alas the original ps2 I purchased when they first were shipped to the US has gone to a better place,(hence why I now have a slim one) I wont be able to test it as I'm the only person that I know that actually plays video games...

Well I finally got to try out a couple of games out on my friend's HDTV. Yup, ps1 games are not ment to work on HDTVs...
He even told me before we began testing that it wouldn't work, and sure enough.
It seems that still images like menues will work fine. It is just when your console has to crank out images that you will start to get screen sizing probems and the like. He explained it to me that ps1 games give out an interlaced image and an HDTV wants the whole thing at once. That's why you'll often get an image on screen that is squeezed down or a different color.
I wonder if playing the ps1 games over a vga connection would resolve this. I was pretty wasted last night, so I didn't really get to try out other options.

yeah that was kinda what I was figuring was the Progressive scan was screwing with it...usually Progressive scan gives off a green color when its not working correctly. Oh well I'm almost done FF7 so I wont be playing too many more ps1 games for a while anyways....
One good thing did come out of this though...got my monster cable for the ps2 for 25 bucks...half of retail =)
