ESA is bad media, try Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony (Made in Japan) or Office Depot's house brand. Burn at 1/2 the rated media's speed, and defrag your hard drive quite often. Also, check your DVD burner's firmware, make sure it is the most current.
Read this link, long but good,

I hope that this helps.

also if these are downloaded files from the internet then you have to make sure it's playing fine and the conversion isn't going to adjust it too much to make the files corrupt where they act funny, like skipping and pixelate or freeze. soooooo consider where the file came from and understand sometimes you get garbage and you try to make champagne, it doesn't work!

ESA is bad media
That would be my guess as for the cause of this problem.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I agree, the media is most likely the problem. The conversion process will not cause it to skip, but will and may cause pixalization.
