I am relatively new to this task so please bear with me. I tried to copy my dvd and Shrink made the preview file. When I went to back up I got the error message "CRC failed to read file E:\ data error."
I understand that the source disk probably is dirty/defective. When I clean the disk and re insert it Shrink remembers the disk and no longer previews the dvd. It simply calls up all the files. I think these are corrupted but I can't find them to delete them.
To reiterate. How do I get Shrinks to re preview a disk? This way I can clean the disk and try to copy it again. This is not an encription issue as the movie is old Disney.
I don't think you CAN get DVD Shrink to re-preview the disc. You could try ISO Buster or AnyDVD's built in ripper! Other than that, you could try to get a disc buffer. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you, though...
The problem may be that the disk has structural copy protection that DVD Shrink cannot handle.
Try ripping the DVD with DVDFab Decrypter and then opening that with Shrink. If Shrink balks at that, run the ripped files through FixVTS or VObblanker and then open them in Shrink.
Also the preview analysis only samples frames, it doesn't read the entire disk. That's only done when it's actually processing the files during the backup process.
If you really want to clear the analysis cache it can be done with PgcEdit with the DVD Shrink plug-in.
Download PgcEdit and install.
Download the Shrink plug-in for PgcEdit and restart PgcEdit.
The command is under the Plugins menu > DVD Shrink > Clear cache...
I think the cache file also can be found in this path:
Local Disk > Documents and Settings > All Users > Application Data > DVD Shrink > Analysis Results
Some of the above folders are hidden so you'll need to go to Control Panels > Folder Options > View tab >and select Show Hidden Files and Folders.
You can also try new proggy RipIt4Me that incorporates the PSL file making ability of PGCEdit and also FixVTS that will fix the bad cells.
Guide and examples along with software here.
Thanks for the great info gentlepeople.
Aparently there is a learing curve. I will try the tips provided and post an update in a few days, hopefully. Kids eh? I have always had great success using DVD43 as my decryptor. Then I would simply use shrink to create the ISO file. I have only been stumped twice. Narnia and some new barbie (Disney). I need the back ups as the kids are 3 and 5, nuff said?
If you look in the DVD Shrink directory, it has files of movies it has previewed. Just delete those, and Shrink will run thru the preview process again. The inital preview doesnt analyze each frame, it is just a quickie. When Shrink goes to Analyze and Encode, it then goes thru all the frames. I am at work, so i cant tell you exactly where in the shrink directory these files are, but you should be able to find them. Leave the folder, but delete the files, and it should preview again. I am not sure if it is in a temp file directory.
I remember from a while back someone was afraid Shrink was gathering evidence of ripping, when a poster found these files in shrink. Once shrink has done its quick preview, that temp file will be used again if the same movie is put in shrink. Delete that temp file, and shrink will preview the movie again.
If someone out there remembers where those files are, pls post it here so zumatjn can delete them. I will look at them when i get home, but i have a few more hours to work, and then its sleepy time for me, when the sun comes up.
**edit***
Didnt completely read laddyboys post before, but the path listed is probably the one i was thinking about.
I tried the purge and clean and got the same message. I now agree its a copyright thing shink can't handle. I will try the rip it forme next. In a day or two. thanks again
