Hey is there anyway to run a 'hacked' firmware on the PS2 to allow you to play games without swapping or a modchip? Is it possible to flash the dvd drive similar to what is done with the xbox? I have a V1 ps2 and i can't find any flip covers and i don't want to use a modchip. Thanks.

I agree with dan168...never heard of anything like that.

If you can't find a flip top for your V1, why not go with a slide card. They're cheap and very easy to use.

I guess it's just always been easier to get a modchip rather than trying to hack Sony's firmware, afterall, Microsoft IS the inferior when it comes to designs :D

What...the slide card?? There is nothing wrong with the slide card, as long as you don't try to use brute force!

well the slide card forces the tray in and out, while the motor may be disengaged when you do that, some people feel uncomfortable doing this

I think http://www.saveware.com or http://www.baysoftgames.com has v1 fliptops (they call it 10 screw).
