AVG Free, hands down.

Heres a sneak preveiw of my new guide.

Anti Virus Software For Windows

REMEMBER TO ONLY HAVE ONE OF THEESE INSTALLED AS THEY WILL CONFLICT AND CREATE FALSE POSSTIVE RESULTS

AVG FREE
(Writers Choice)

GRISOFT once again received the VB100% Award by independent malware advisor, Virus Bulletin, in June 2006. AVG Anti-Virus proved itself by detecting all In the Wild viruses, while generating no false positives, during both on-demand and on-access scanning in Virus Bulletin's comparative tests.

Download AVG FREE-----> http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5

AVG Free is an excellent anti virus app that you can have faith in, protection you can trust to keep you out of sticky situations, this is my pick and I highly reccomend its use, I've used it for years and on many a pc without a single worry and it has proved to be effective in doing what it does, give it a try today for nothing, can't hurt can it? :)

Avast Home Edition

Zone Alarm users beware, Avast + ZA = Trouble!

The people over at ZA & Avast are working on it though, so just wait till they sort out the conflict issues ;)

Don't let that put you off, Avast is a great AV app, Read more here:

DOWNLOAD AVAST HOME EDITION-----> http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

It really is an able program and deffinatly worth a try, does the job without a problem, simple, sleek and free protection.

Someone always has to disagree and it must be me this time. I think Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus+Antispyware is the best you can find! Although it is not free you can download a 30 day free trial here http://www.pandasoftware.com/download/Software

AVG is good but it doesn't find them all! I used to use AVG before my ISP gave me their's. It is call Freedom, I used it for about 2 months until I was having major problems with a few viruses. Nothing could get rid of them, nothing! I got Spyware Doctor and it would find them but not delete them, evidently I need the full verison. I didn't want to purchase it so I go in search for a crack. I got one but they kept finding out it wasn't legit. I got sick and tired of this so I went in search of something better. I stumbled upon Panda Software one day, so I decided to give it a try. With the 30 day trial I got 1 update and I got to remove everything! After scanning with AVG it found no infections. After I got Panda I scanned right after my AVG scan and it found over 4000(yes four thousand!) infections and ridded them all! Well, the point is AVG found zero and 30 mins later Panda found 4000, which do you think is better. Anyhow, good luck with which ever you choose.

Niobis, He asked for freeware :)

Also, If its paid for protection you want, Kaspersky AV is THE best anti virus hands down, it has the most intense, powerfull scanner will extremely high detection rates, case closed, test's have confirmed this.

I'm a AVG Free user and love it, if its good enough for me its good enough for you :)

I know he asked for freeware. It is free, for 30 days. There are ways around payments...

As my story tells, AVG was not good enough for me...it found zero infections, but Panda found 4000+. How can AVG be good if I found that many infections with another program?

Hey smartass, unless you want me to get the mods over and have them explain the rules about piracy *and trust me, hinting at it is just as bad*, then i'd suggest you change that remark a bit.
And your personal experience with a program means zip in comparison to the widespread tests done by independent testers and companies...

The_Fiend, I wasn't even being a smartass! And I wasn't taking about priacy! Not even hinting to it...

And, my personal means alot to me when I can find that many infections with something else!

All I'm saying is Panda is better than AVG, it's only an opinion! Whatever you choose to use is up to you! I'm just giving the guy some options!

Next time, don't jump to conclusions!

So, when I say that you automatically think I mean piracy? Well, there are ways around payments without relying on piracy!

I find it funny that I said there are ways around it without piracy and yet you still mention 3 different types of piracy...

Try something, like it? Download it again! Don't think that is piracy!

And then you come to realise that if you remove it and then download it again, it has left a marker on your computer and it will tell you your 30 day evalutaion is over...
And removing said markers as done in this context is considered a form of piracy in product licensing laws...
Care to try again ?

How many of them were viruses, a tonne were probably cookies etc, I will beleive you if you produce the log.

As looking at several anti virus comparisons and thorough testing we can see that the defintion margin isn't as big as you claim it to be, however I am not calling you a lier, if you say Panda found 4000+ as appose to AVG finding zero I will accept it.

Whatever you think is the better is your oppinion and you are more than entitled to it, just remember panda DO cry wolf when using there trials.

That means they say your infected when your not, in an attempt to make you subscribe.

Then you realise that you know nothing about Panda! Set it to not send information to the Panda company! I've been using it for over 3 months now, works everytime. Is changing a programs options piracy?

rav009, yes about 2500+ were tracking cookies, but that still leaves 1500 non-cookie related viruses, spyware, phishing tools, ect. Trust me, I got hacked on eBay because of these infections! Someone posted that I had a Porshe for sell for $1...I had alot of trouble fixing this. Panda was the only program that got rid of whatever was on my PC allowing this to go on.

Uhm, hello? did i say anything about it phoning home ?
I implied it left a service termination marker on your system that would end any newly donwloaded trial, as that was how it worked last time i heard.
However, i will grant you that they might have changed their policy, but it's still illegal when taking the licensing laws into consideration, not to mention it's a major pain in the ass to reinstall every 30 days...

Where did I say they send info to the company?

READ THE POST'S BEFORE YOUR TELL ME I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING NIOBIS!

If you think this:

"Whatever you think is the better is your oppinion and you are more than entitled to it, just remember panda DO cry wolf when using there trials.

That means they say your infected when your not, in an attempt to make you subscribe."

Means I'm trying to say Panda send your personal info to them, your incorrect.

Infact, I havent a clue where you got that from, my advice to you would be toREAD THE POST'S BEFORE YOUR TELL ME I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!

haha, alright guys enough with the meaningless arguing. Rav009, is right on the money for freeware anti-virus, except i would not recommend ZA. ZA is alright, and was good before SP2 came around. ZA is just a bit annoying, even after setting it up correctly. Go with one of the other 2 rav009 suggested.

rav009, that top post was not for you! You read before posting! The bottom one was in response to you.

The_Fiend, yes it can become a pain, but it's better than paying out the ass to stay clean. I would not think that changing a programs settings would be considered piracy.

Niobis, you are basically telling people to do piracy

evidently I need the full verison. I didn't want to purchase it so I go in search for a crack.
. also we give suggestions to people & let them try the programs. so if i see another post from you about piracy you might not like the results. understand!!!

Yes, the quote you gave was piracy. But, that was about Spyware Doctor...I stated that it didn't work as they know it is not legit. I was not saying do it, I was saying that is what I needed to get rid of the infections. They are saying that how I use Panda is piracy. I don't think it is...you can decide but I only change the options of the program.
