I burned "Bicentennial Man" at about 55% and it looked pretty good but other movies have this same compression and you can see the flaws in it.
One example is Star Wars. I could see the flaws in this movie when I burned at 55% so I split it and it looked great. I guess my question is are there certain types of movies that do not compress well?
oh, I used DVDshrink on both of these movies to compress.

Yes different compression settings affect different movies. There shouldn't be that much of a difference if it was compressed only once. However, if the movie was compressed more than once, the quality will become significantly lower. Try out different transcoders for yourself. The best quality you're going to recieve on Star Wars is if you re-author the movie. On some movies, you don't even have to compress the movie at all. IMO, CloneDVD is the best compresser for any movie. Also, IMO, CloneDVD has the worst burning engine (for my computer at least and I have the latest firmware!). But, the burning engine may be different for you.

For movies that needed "more" compressions (i.e. 70% on the Quality or lower), I used nothing but DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.7 and for movies that needed "less" compressions (i.e. 70% on the Quality or higher), I'll use Nero Recoded 2 with "Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie".

The choice is yours. Good luck and happy burning.

Go to this thread for a comparison of DVDRB and encoding compared to transcoding programs. You will see that for a highly compressed movie, Clone is at the bottom quality wise. A member pazzini did Saving Private Ryan which was at 49% and Clone came out very bad for that high of a compression.

Hi :)

What it all comes down to is bitrate, lets say Bicentennial man has an average bitrate of 5,000 and star wars has an average of 2,500 now at 50% compression Bicentennial man will have an average bitrate of 2,500 while star wars would go down to 1,250. A bitrate of 2,500 will still look great, but when it comes to star wars a bitrate of 1,250 is not good enough and flaws as you put it will be more noticeable.

Try using DVD Shrink only until it will fit on your dvd and burn it with DVD Decrypter. Its that easy. If you still can't do it, here is a full process:
How to copy any dvd:

What you will need: - DVD Shrink (latest version)
- DVD Decrypter (latest version)

1.) Insert any dvd into the DVD drive.

2.) Run DVD Decrypter.

3.) Go to Mode -> ISO -> Read.

4.) Set the "target" as your DVD.

5.) Make sure the destination is under your biggest disk (so it doesn't mess up your computer's preformance).

6.) Click 'Decrypt' (DVD to HD).

7.) Once that is complete, insert a blank dvd and go to Mode -> ISO -> Write.

8.) In the 'source' box, open the movie that you just ripped.

9.) Click 'Write' (HD to DVD).

Tip: I suggest writing at the slowest speed (1x for me) so it comes out crisp and clear with no skips.

I don't think he asked about how to copy a dvd.

Also, in my opinion, and I know I'm not alone on this, I think CloneDVD was bad for compressed movies. The same percentage rate for Shrink and CloneDVD will result in a more pixelated picture in CloneDVD, compared to Shrink--at least to my eyes.

The final choice is yours.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

With films that need high compression make sure you select deep analysis with AEC set to max smooth for a better picture. Note: it will take longer but the resulting image is better.

There was some debate on the quality enhancement settings in this thread, they involved Shrink and Recode, and which was best.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=50806

Personally, I have come to the conclusion the RB is the only way to go for higher compressed movies. If the compression is at 20% Shrink is best, or Recode but I would not use Clone for anything of more than 10%. But that is just my two cents :)
