I have had great sucess ripping and burning dvd's until last week. Now whatever I try I am getting a medium not present message. So I thought it might be my burner so I went out and bought a new one but I am still getting this note. It doesn't matter which program I try to rip with, it's saying I don't have a disc in the drive. And yes, I can play the movie with windows media, so I know it is there. Help please. Maybe a clue here, but not sure. I d/l a ripper last week that said it was in conflict with another one and did I want to uninstall that one, I did, but this seems to be the start of the problems. Unfortunatley I don't remember the programs tho...

Hello.
Do you have DVD43 installed? Did you try to install AnyDVD as well?
Post back exactly what programs you are using. If you are using Nero, post the NeroHistory log, deleting your name and serial number before posting. Each recent burn's info is in a separate section that begins with a header followed by your name and program serial number. For example my sections begins as follows:
====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
My Name
1A....... mu program serial number
Windows XP 5.1
IA32
WinAspi: -
ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004
Your NeroHistory log is one of these paths depending upon the version:
Nero 6: Program Files > Ahead > Nero > NeroHistory
Nero 7: Program Files > Nero > Nero7 > Core > NeroHistory

yes laddie boy, those are the 2 programs I have that I think said caused the conflict..DVD43 and then AnyDVD. I've got as much of 43 off that I can, will try again. Other programs I have are DVDSAnta, Shrink, DVDDecrypter, FabDVDDecrypter, IsoBuster,DVDCloner, CopyDVDGold and ImgBurn.

DVD43 and AnyDVD do conflict. You may have to boot into safe mode to get rid of DVD43. DVD43 can be an evil program and hard to dispose of sometimes.
Honestly, if I were in your place, I'd backup my data, format my hard drive, and start over just to make sure the mess was cleaned up.

There seems to be 3 DVD43 programs I can't delete. They are DVD43 Tray located at Program Files\dvd43, DVD$# 3.8.0 in Downloads\DVD43 3.8.0 zip, and DVD43 in Program File.
Anyway, here is where I stand. I used dvdfab Decrypter, the VobBlanker, then DVD Shrink. I have the movie stored on my PC in a temp file. My problem is that when I ask Shrink to burn it, it asks for a blank disc, and then won't recocnize that there is one in the tray.

@JT
Boot into safe mode and see if you can get rid of these.
Have you tried other media to see if it could just be the particular media you're using?
Reset the transfer mode for your drives:
Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Click the hardware tab.
Click the Device Manager button
Click the "+" symbol beside IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
Right click on Primary IDE Channel and select Uninstall.
Right click on Secondary IDE Channel and select Uninstall.
Uninstall your drive with Device Manager:
Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives category by clicking on the "+" symbol if present.
Right click on the name of the burner and select Uninstall.
Restart the system. Windows will reinstall the drive upon restart.

OK, 2 things.....1 - I have listed 2 primary IDE channels, and 2 Secondary.
2 - I don't see the drive being the problem as I can use it ok to rip the dvd's
Just seems to me that for some reason it doesn't recognize a blank disc

Did you try a system restore to back before you had the problems, or did you do a reg clean to see if that will clean out anything left in the reg by DVD43?
