SM3 Defect ?

Last week, I received my Swap magic 3 with the fliptop, I was really happy, I installed everything then I booted the PS2, I played for a hour, then I turned it off, After I came back to play, It was giving me a disc read error (The swap magic DVD.. and Cd) , I resseted and turned of the ps2 a couple of time to make it boot, It wasnt working.. Finally, after 4-5 times, It worked then I played again , Everything was perfect in game .. Then, the other day I played again, Bam, DRE Again ! I asked some tips and cleaned my playstation 2.. It was still doing it ! Then, I put my Kingomd hearts 2 Original game in the disk tray, It works, I try to eject and reset my ps2 a couple of time to confirms, It always works perfectly.. Then, I put back my swap magic 3, Bam, DRE.. I tried with the CD version too and it does it.. Does that mean I got a defect pack of SM3.6? What should I do ? It only gives me DRE with SM3..
(The longest time the swap magic was booting without giving DRE Was 8 times.. And it gave one after..)

I know you've asked to delete the other thread, but once you posted it's best to keep it and wait for people to reply and not double post, as the mods really hate that (it gives them extra work to do)...
But anyway, like I said in the other thread, your laser seems to be dying, have you tried adjusting it: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars/1

Hi Dan! (Ok, I understand about the warning)
In the guide, I can't find at all the little wheel, And I checked for a good amount of time and I really didnt find it.. Is that normal ?

hmm... the little wheel you mean the white gear? it should be relatively easy to find... unless you have the slim PS2?

I got the big PS2, I can take a picture if you want and put it here If you need one.. Here's what I did.
(yes, the white gear !)
I got the fliptop , So I didnt need to open the PS..
First I pressed the eject tray button, then turned my ps off by the power switch, I can see everything in it..
The only thing I found that looks like it, is a LITTLE round thing .. but its very very small ..
Again, If you want me to take a picture I'll do it so it will be easier !

Hm, I turned it but at a certain point, It wasnt turning anymore, so I placed it back to what it was.. Oddly, I tried to boot my swap magic 2-4 times and it worked all the times.. I'Ll post more news about that, I gotta go i'll be back soon!

yea that little white thing is the very top of the cog. As you turn it the drive gets higher and higher when it reaches the point you have it at it will make a clicking noise and flick back to its lowest point.

I can't make it turn 360 .. It only turns like about 180 .. I guess the only thing left for me is to order a new swap magic dvd..
(I really dont get it .. Kingdom hearts 2, Devil may cry 2 and dark cloud 2 works perfectly and dont fail.. )

Yeah, I'Ll try to return it.. even if its alot troublesome to return it .. I dont think they'll accept only the swap magic 2 cds, because I ordered the Fliptop combo with swap magic 3.6 at gocybershop..

was it a combo deal or did you order fliptop and swap magic at the same time? if it's a combo then yeah it'll be hard to return it I think

yup its that combo.. I guess i'll just order another copy of swap magic.. Its 18 USD there.. I guess its better than having the trouble to remove all of the case of flip top + shipping it back ! (And having a little chance of getting it back saying its not a defect.. )

If you receive a new one could you tell me if it was the cd and dvd that was defective or the ps2's laser cause I have the same problem...

I'm going to bet it's the laser, even if there's a bit of scratch on the discs it shouldn't give you a disc read error

I found someone who had a PS2, I went to his house trying it, the first time it booted it gave me a DRE.. then I tried 4-5 games and .. It gave me a DRE 60 % of the time.. And his Dvd of SM3.3 Gives him some DRE.. But he says its like 5 % of the times.. So I guess there might be something wrong with the Dvd
