Hey guys. I am interested in putting a hard drive in my fat ps2. I checked the compatibility site and it says my Maxtor DiamondMax 300 GB hard drive with 16 MB buffer will work. The model number is L01R300. I purchased HDAdvance 3.0 so I have everything I need to get started. I was just trying to see if anyone on here has used the same hard drive with good results before I format it and am not able to go back and use it on my pc if it isn't compatible. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

That is way too big for a PS2 or for that matter even a Xbox. You do not need more that at max 20 GB (Xbox varies).

well I see that it shows compatible on ps2drives.x-pec.com/ and they say it works with hd advance so that is why I was asking. 300 GB really isn't all that big when you start putting larger dvd based games on it. 20 GB wouldn't hold very many games at all. Any other input on PS2 units using more than 200 GB hard drives? All comments are appreciated.

if you format it with hdadvance and it doesn't work, you would be able to reformat it to fat or ntfs and reuse it in your computer so you have nothing to worry about.

NTSC DNAS threads.

Without a chip i am not sure you can use that. Check the HD Advance site to see if it has support for drives over 120GB (which is the biggest that it use to be able to format), If it can and that drive is on the chart as working then go for it.
I have a 300GB Western Digital in my Xbox and a 250GB in my PSTwo
Niobis, TOO BIG..Are you kidding me!

I thought I have read that once you format the hard drive as a PS2 hard drive, that you can't reformat it back to be able to be used on a computer. If you are able to reformat it back for computer use then I'll go ahead and give it a shot.

Thanks.

Yeah, you can reformat it back to NTFS or FAT32 if you want to. You would need to do it through "Administrative Tools/ Computer Management/ Disk Management" in your control panel. It's pretty easy to use too.

lol! That's pretty funny man.

Unless you're into the whole, "Having a lot of games takes away from the gameing experiance." That I can understand. Before I had HDLoader, I would play a game till I passed it. Now I easily get bored with my games, and I just move on to the next one. That's why i got into music games... Those are entertaining no matter what. Anywho...

Well I installed the maxtor hard drive and inserted the HD Advance 3.0 DVD. It formatted the drive and said 279 GB of free space and 276 GB available for games.

Not bad at all :)
