I'm trying to get the Japanese version of FFXII to work on my V14 PS2. I have Swap Magic 3.8 and Magic Switch (although, I mostly just used electrical tape to hold the switches. I've tried several games, japanese and American, and the same thing happens each time:
1.I boot with the Swap Magic 3.8 CD because the DVD can't be read at all
2.I select boot normal and switch the disk for the game I am trying. I then select default(or NTSC, I tried both) video mode.
3.I get a screen that says "booting disk in drive (no cheats activated)" The disk is spinning slower than the cd and is making noise here and there.
4.The disk stops, then starts up again, the screen displays the ps2 browser, and then I get a screen that says, "please insert a ps2 format disk."
I get the same thing for every game I try, whether American or Japanese, and all of my American disks boot just fine. Should this not at least work for booting my American games?, and one other thing, I noticed strange rings on the Swap magic disks. Could this have anything to do with my problem? Is this a problem with my ps2(swap magic's compatibility with v14 or something) or with my tape job on the buttons or is it something else that I'm doing? Plz help. I've had the game for 2 weeks, and I've already fried a PS2 trying to install a modchip to get this game to work(the v14 is brand new).
just to clarify, when I said my American games boot fine, I mean that they boot fine on their own, not with swap magic. Everything doesn't work with swapmagic.
Terribly sorry, I read them after. So basically, you're saying I have to use the swap magic DVD, which doesn't work. can I assume it's a bad copy or is there something else I can do? Thank you so much for all the help.
