I bought a brand new slimline PS2 v12 and then sent it over to modchipman.com so they could do the whole install service for me. got the DMS4 Lite installed with a laser fix of course.

anyways, I barely used the thing in the 4 months I've had it. not because I didn't want to, but because the thing would only boot first class media, and even then it crashed and froze up on me a lot.

for a while, it would only boot retail PS2 games and CD-R backups. now it will only play games when the system itself is REALLY cold. but when it is, it'll play anything for about 5 minutes before the thing heats up again.

now logically I should replace the fan, and possible get a USB external fan. and probably clean the thing out too. but I want to make sure that's the case before I start spending more money, the thing has already taken enough of that already.

and about replacing the laser... I don't have any experience with electronics or soldering, would it be a big problem for me to do it myself?

I know this isn't much of a post, but I am so frustrated right now that I need to take comfort that there is hope in fixing this piece of c&*%.

Why would you use anything other than first class media? The price difference between a crap disc and a first class disc is so little, somtimes even less. If your having problems like that with a brand new console you should take it back to the installer and give em a turkey slappin.

should take it to a pro or the guy himeself that did it, it shouldnt be doing this but v12 are a bit annoying there lasers arent very good so only first class media will run smooth on them

contact the place that did the install and tell them.
It should not have that problem. It will overheat much worse if it is summer time and you live in a house with no AC
Then you are in for real problems. Other than that it should work just fine. I have a V12 with laser fix and DMS4 Pro chip and the only problem i have is that after it heats up i have to press it off, and then wait about 30 seconds to 1 minute before i put in the next game and load it. But this also happens mostly when i am on vacation in a house with little or no AC running.
And always use quality media.

It's hard to get first class media where I live. the only way is to buy it off the internet and I don't have a credit card or a paypal account. occassionaly they have it, but not often.

I have AC, and it's fairly cold here. I don't know if I can send it back, since the guy who did it is in the states. I sent it to modchipman.com, I don't think they would take responsibility if it was there fault because they say they test it for 24 hours before shipping.

open it and see if its dusty could be making it heat up too quicke and another thing on www.playstation.com.au there is a section where it tells you that some of the v12 ac adapters arent working properly causing the ps2 to overheat try checking it there they ask you ur ac's serial and date and tell you if its one of those affected if it is you fill the form out and they send oyu a new one try it

I believe it was the AC adapters that were over heating and not the console itself, anyway if you brought your console 4 months ago, you wont have a defective adapter as they were all recalled when the problem was discovered last year. You really need to be asking the installers "whats up"

It seems I've had it a bit longer than that. around 6 - 7 months lol. I don't know why I thought it was 4. anyways about the AC adapter, the code is ADP-50VH, which doesn't look like one of the adapters that were affected. I emailed the installer, I am waiting for a reply.

thanks for the help guys.
