You can take your regular iso file and extract all the files out of it, WinRAR works best. Then recompile it and it will be smaller. It works on all ISO files but the amount of the dummy data that gets taken out varies. Lets take Splinter Cell essentials for example. Its around 1.7 gigs with nothing ripped out of it. Extract all the files out of it and its 1.1 gigs. 600 megs of dummy data can be taken out just by extracting all the files. Cars for example, its 800 megs with nothing taken out. Use this method and it's 200 megs with nothing ripped. If you dont believe me then try it for yourself. You can use this method and then compress it and it can make for some pretty small ISO files. If you have any more questions on this method just PM me or post a question here. :)

What do you mean? Like if you rip an ISO w/ Fastloader and extract it and then rebuild w/ VcdromX. It gets rid of the cell padding, so yea. It does make the file smaller. But I don't think that's what you're talking about. Wassup? I was NEVER able to get Splinter Cell down to 1.10GB w/o screwing it up bigtime. I wasn't aware there was any dummy data in there. Everytime I tried screwing w/ the game, it only got worse. I got it down to 660MB by manually ripping (no rip kit) and it worked but then I killed someone I shouldn't have (ARMY Reserves in the NY level) and I couldn't restart. I could rotate the camera around, but I couldn't exit. So it didn't exaclty freeze, but it kinda froze you know?
Anyway, help me out here, hex... what're we talking about?

Sorry my splinter cell is at 1.3 gigs. And i didn't rip anything. But thats about the most of it. That is what I'm talking about, I wouldnt have created the post if I was talking about something else. Seriously dude go and try it. If you have an untouched ISO extract all the files and you will notice a difference in size just between the ISO and newly created folder containing all the extracted files. It might not take the padding out, hell I could of been totally wrong about how it gets smaller. All I know is it DOES work. Go try it.

So just take an untouched ISO, extract w/ UMDGen and rebuild, right? Yea, I've done that. It didn't work for Splinter Cell and it WAS untouched. It was like 1.68GB, I had PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.BIN and compiled them w/ VcdromX and it didn't do much.

Woah! Slow down w/ the attitude, man! We're all good here!

Ummmmm no. I wouldn't UMDGEN. Use WinRAR to extract all the files out of the Untouched ISO. Then rebuild it with Vcdromx 3.6. I didn't think UMDGEN could extract files anyhow. Guess you learn somethin new everyday. Here is a screenshot of how big my SCE rip is now. You should try it with WinRAR guano and post back your results. Becuz you can notice the difference before you rebuild it, just from extracting the files with WinRAR you can tell. I wanna see who this works for and who it doesn't. Just hold your cursor over the ISO, then extract the files with WinRAR and hold your cursor over the newly created folder. Is there any difference in size?

Dude im not kidding try it the way I explained it. No umdgen. Hold your curson over the SCE ISO, then extract all the files with WinRAR. Hold your cursor over the newly created folder and tell me if there is a difference is a size. I wanna know if it works for you. It worked for both jared and everyone else I told it to, so maybe it's a minor oversight. How did you extract files with UMDGEN anyhow?

Drop the files in the field on the right and hit the DISC IN FRONT OF THE BLANK PAGE icon instead of the one I highlighted. If you hover, it will say "Extract entire ISO contents".
I will try maybe later. I'm not needing to do it now b/c I don't even use Splinter Cell.iso anymore, and I've got all my ISOs exactly how I want them.

It works amit. It removes the dummy data out of the iso. All psp iso have it. You can tell the difference in size just by extracting the files out of the archive with WinRAR. Extract all the files to a folder, that folder it comes up with will be smaller then the iso. Just varies on how much dummy data the iso has. As for vcdromx go to www.psp-hacks.com to pick that up.

Hex, it also works when u extract it using WinRAR an then create the iso using UMDGen.
But could i ask you a couple of questions?
Would i save any memory on Miami Vice? I downloaded it, it was 207 mb. Could I get this down further by turning it back to an ISO and then extracting it? I don't think so, but just wanted to make sure.
Also if i rip a UMD and then compress it into a CSO, will it save as much memory as extracting the ISO and then making it a CSO?
Thanks.

If its down to 207 MB then all the dummy data is taken out and might have a ripkit applied to. Yes it works with UMDGEN also but I recommend vcdromx 3.6 as UMDGEN doesn't work with all games. However I have never ran into a single game loading problem with Vcdromx 3.6. As for second question yes you will save some space with extracting the files then rebuilding it and then compressing. All PSP iso's files have dummy data in them. Unless the dummy data has already been ripped out.
