Hey, I'm kinda new to this. Been using DVD Shrink and decryptor for a long time now, but since my back up dvds are becoming unreadable by my dvd player (scratches, etc.) I thought maybe it would be better to take the original dvds ad rerip them straight to an external hard drive. However, a large dvd collection would cause a hard drive to fill up quickly. I have over 50 dvds and don't wanna buy an expensive hard drive only to be filled up quick, so I thought compression would be easiest. Does anyone know how to do this with free based programs?

You rip the DVD to HD as that should remove the encryption. Then you use ratDVD to copy that to the external

so i rip the dvd to hd....but i have had problems with shrink with more recent movies because of no updates for shrink. which program would u recommend for ripping? I have decryptor. will that work? I know decryptor doesn't compress, so when i use ratDVD to copy to ext. will it compress? could i rip with decryptor, then compress with WinRAR or would it be better to rip with decryptor, then compress with ratDVD?
