You probably didn't catch it when it was unlocked. The same thing happened to me, just keep trying.

did you disconnect IDE cable after you see microsoft logo AND before xbox hangs or goes to service screen?

The hdd is unlocked when you see microsoft logo appears. Then it is locked again just before xbox hangs or goes to service screen.

try the proven method of having a music track on ur xbox HDD, play it for a few seconds and then pause it. HDD well then stay unlocked, for u to do ur swap, worked for me just fine. I switch me xbox on along time before i switch pc on, but when i do finally boot pc, i swop very fast, the faster the better ... good luck

ok
i found any easier wAY TO DO THIS:

INSTEAD OF PAUSING THE COMPUTER

JUST START UP THE COMPUTER AND XBOX AT THE SAME TIME AND THEN DO THE SWAP WHEN IT SHOWS THE MICROSOFT LOGO TO COMPUTER WITH OUT STOPPING THE COMPUTER
I DID IT ABOUT 8 TIMES AND EVERY TIME IT WORKED SO ALL OF U HAVIN TROUBLE OUT THERE WITH THE TIMING JUST TRY THIS
