For a very long time now I have used DVD Shrink along with Nero in a Windows XP enviornment. To me, the process was multi-step, cumberson and it didn't always work. For some reason, after DVD Shrink did its thing, I'd have to reboot before selcting Nero for the burn or the burn would fail. Now that bad behavior is history. Through this site it was recommended that I try DVDFAB Express. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It has an automatic interface with Nero too so basically you just put in the disk you want to copy, and press start. Once copies, add a blank disk, press OK and the interface with Nero is automatic and the burn is done! What a great product!! I love this thing! for more info you can go to their site at http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-fab-express.htm FREE 30 trial at this site and probably elsewhere: http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/Data-CD-DVD-Burning/DVD...

No thanks..........I've tried DVDfabExpress, and I much prefer DVD Shrink! I've never had any problems with Shrink. I like it a lot. When it quits doing my movies, then I'll quit using it.

If you prefer DVDfabExpress, go ahead and use it. :o)

Since i don't use Rebuilder/encoder because it takes way too long with my little system, i use either Nero Recode2 or Shrink, and let me just tell you all that, as transcoders, there is nothing better than those two. of course, i'm speaking picture quality output only.

quote"dump shrink".

are you out of your mind.
take this combo. Ripit4me/shrink/IMGBurn.free/free/free. great/greatgreat.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

well AnyDVD DVD Shrink an Nero are the best combination mainly because its basicly one click on back up on DVD Shrink an it takes the copy protections garbage, rips an burns all in one click of the mouse so i cant knock these programs since i've never had problems with these. easy to use a toddler should be capable of doing it...just my two cents

I too tried it and did not like it, the backups seemed to come out dark. At least with Shrink/Recode you get a choice of advanced/deep analysis and Slow encoding and Quality Enhancements. If you want the best then use DVD Rebuilder which encodes rather than transcodes. If you don't want to take the time with that program then use Shrink or Recode they are the best of the transcoders. Just my opinion :)

@ privacy99,

i have never had a problem with DVD Shrink, it makes PERFECT backups with great picture quality like elizerroj said.

BTW if i ever, ever, ever pay for a program it will be AnyDVD, when the free progams dont work anymore of course

I also did try it and did not like it at all

Even though I don't use DVD Shrink anymore, I must say it is "definitely" one of the best free transcoder out there. Otherwise, the choice is yours.

These days, I'm all about DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.7 and Nero Recode 2 (Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie).

Dvd shrink/autoburn with nero/dual DVD-RW drives/and once in a great while -using AnyDVD in the background. Insert original and blank in each drive/open disc/re-author if desired/backup-double check backup options/ok and that's all she wrote. Pretty simple. You can even set it up to shutdown automatically afterwards,in case you leave for a while and need a copy of a dvd. Set it,and forget it.

Heck of a set up. No need to separately open up Nero to burn.

Some systems don't take kindly to DVD Shrink. They slow down, reboots, etc. Shrink does max out the processor.A quality powersupply helps out immensely. I noticed my spare pc slowing down. Time for a re-format? It's got 200+ gbs of data on her.

I've got Nero recode2,DVD Decrypter,imgburn,Dvd fab decrypter,sonic,Nero.I also tried dvd fab decrypter express,one click,Superdvd copy,and others.

DVD Shrink is my main program for single layer dvd backups.DL backups, that's another story, LOL

Kinda looks like privacy99 just wanted to start something.......
Talking junk about a favorite program around here, and then not posting back. Probably wanted to see what everyone would have to say about Shrink, or him/her.

i prefer clone2 myself, but if u dont want to spend the extra cash shrink is the way to go. ive almost stopped using dvdrebuilder because DL media is alot cheaper these days.besides there arent many movies worth the time of rebuilder or the cost of DL media in the first place.

Well, I would consider "retiring" Shrink; if you can clue me in on a single application that (1) removes basic copy protection (2) compresses (3) allows user to "shuttle" thru a copy protected DVD and "re-author" just a desired "clip" of a movie.
AS for DVDFabExpress...I have it ...I love it..cut thru the Sony "new protection-forgot the name" like butter...but it don't compress while copying the disk and you end up with 9-gig saved on HDD waiting for Rebuilder or Shrink...no I wouldn't dream of Direct Burn( too many coasters)
Still, I would like the name of the application that does all that Shrink does...I don't believe Rebuilder allows me to "shuttle" thru with a preview and re-author "clips"?

I'm kinda insulted too....you see...Shrink & Nero ...are like the left and right breasts that suckled me as an Infant DVD/ Digital Buff. YOU just don't throw Mommy off the Train. :-) We need Smilies around here!

I'm with alkohol and pazzini. Dvd rebuilder pro with CCE 2.70 or procoder2 is all I will use any more period. These proggy's definately reproduce superior video quality especially on larger widescreen hdtv's and when higher compression is required. Doesn't take hardly any more time than shrink set at best quality but the results are obviously much better.

I have read through this thread, and i see alot of AnyDVD and shrink,
pop in cinderella man EX, and see what happens....
Shrink is great for things it will work for, however soon you will be using shrink to simply do that and THAT is shrink....
The protections coming out regardless of AnyDVD running will shut down shrink in a sec,
it is becoming more complex and if you want a movie in particular that has these problems these soft simple examples will not work.

As of right now, the toughest scenario you will run into is ripping something, then running VTS, then shrinking then burning.

I wish it was the way it was 3 years ago with AnyDVD and shrink, but the more I have been playing the more i have been realizing that shrink is a simple tool... had it been updated, it would be tremendous but it is not....
Other options out there and soon lots of you will be going to them,

Since the original post was all but pointless, I may as well contribute something equally pointless:

cum·ber·some
adj.
1. Difficult to handle because of weight or bulk. See Synonyms at heavy.
2. Troublesome or onerous.

Not "cumberson."

Back to reality, DVD Shrink is nothing to sneeze at. Yes, you may have to do a couple of things to compensate its antiquity, but the program still works wonders. I have absolutely no complaints.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

@cwsslr................
Are you saying you had trouble with Cinderella Man? I didn't! I used Shrink w/Nero, and AnyDVD running in background. The only other software that's this easy is CloneDVD and AnyDVD combo. There are other softwares, that will do the job, but more involved (more steps to get to same result).

Shrink may not be updated anymore, but with AnyDVD running in the background, it still gets the job done, on 99% of the movies I've done.

Just a couple of pages - sorry - lines. I've had shrink since I discovered this great forum, and am still using it. I agree AnyDVD is very good, but my trial has expired and am therefore using dvdfab decrypter.
I'm in the fortunate position of having 2 comps. and so I can start a project and just walk away from it, just checking back now and again to load the next progs and burn etc.
I don't generally post unless i have a problem and if I do, I just read the forum to find a solution. As I said, having 2 'puters I burn at 2.4 and have great success..
Recent successful burns include, Million Dollar Baby, King Kong, Narnia, Man on Fire oh and quite a few others.
DVDfab and DVD Shrink for me everytime.
Sorry, thats more than a couple of lines.
