Me too, still use it on older movies. I'm not bothered about how long it takes, as long as the jobs done. Usual average depending on movie, from 75mins upto 2hrs.

I'll bet that fellahs sorry he brought all this up!

If you had AnyDVD running in the background,
You would NOT want to be getting rid of DVD Shrink.
The program is NOT up to date decryption wise,
But added with an updated version of AnyDVD,
It works every time.

I use dvdfab decrypter, compress with shrink, and burn with DVD Decrypter works great.Never had a problem this way.I had problems with Nero for the final burn so I burn with dvd decrpter instead.

Is it crap or is it memorex?

cinderella man

Not that this has 2 films on this disc. The wide screen and the normal image. The older discs used to put the same film on either side of the disc but this seems to be on film on top of the either hence the huge file size.

Well i sued the following method

1) Used DVD Fab Decrypter to rip the film. dvd dycrpter can handle this film too.

2) Used Vobblanker to blank out(Remove) the letter box fil and the extras

3) Ran the new file through shrink

4) Burned to disc

DvD Fab will rip a house down...I use it and then run the file through VoBlnkr to clean it up and compress with Recode/Shrink..seamless process. DL Discs are not dropping in price as much as regular blank media sorry to say it is not worth it to use DL media. I can get 50 Taiyo G02/03's for 33.00 dollars U.S. to my door. Try and buy 25 DL discs and it's about double the price. Plus they still haven't worked out all of the bugs with the DL discs from what i've read. If you have smaller backup projects then DL blank medial might be the way to go, but not for larger projects. You might as well as buy another DvD if it gets scratched. Again IMO.

The initial post has to be spam...unless you want superior quality and go with DVD-RB Pro and CCE, then shrink is the way to go. Plus you can't beat the price. Great discussion though.

ditto to ditto

I won't retire shrink from my pc, decryptions not updated anymore but a killer anyway. And yes, I think the first post was spam... lol, great discussion though.

Shrink and ImgBurn with AnyDVD is a trio that all together only costs 39.00 (34.00) if you use the Slysoft coupon) and you cannot get a better backup trio than this. For quality, speed, and compatibility you cannot go wrong. Its a fact.

I have been using shrink and decrypter for years now and it is very easy to use.

What cwsslr said is interesting what other program shrinks a film to a DVD-R (4.7gb) disc and lets you burn straight after for free.

The newer films i am having problems with, so im open to other alternatives

My first introduction to DVD software, and Afterdawn, was from a Canandian guy named Keana (leaving out last name) who told me I needed 3 things - Nero, DVD Shrink and Decryptor. I always thought of Decrypter and Shrink as the dynamic duo of DVD duplication (especially once they upgraded Shrink to autoburn with Nero, instead of having to open Nero). I still mostly rip with Decrypter, although I'm using DVDFab a bit more for ripping movies (I mostly do TV show DVDs) than I used to. I ripped Cinderella Man with Decryptor and then ran Shrink. The best thing I can say for DVD Fab is that I don't typically have a need for Vobblanker on anything, whereas some of the Decrypter ripped movies need it. I may invest in AnyDVD some day, but I like to rip several DVDs at once to shrink/burn at my leisure, and I think I'd have to run the whole gambit a DVD at a time with Any DVD.

i tried AnyDVD and didn't find it did anything special that I couldn't have done with other apps, like DVDFAB, Decrypter, Shrink. I biggest complaint with it was the Evasiveness...the slyfox sets in your system tray/startup taking up Processing Resources...and whenever I place a disc in..I'm not necessarily planning on ripping a protected disc and if I were I'm more than capable of simply selecting my tool of choice.

Having been down many alleyways and dead ends in the last 15 months, I finally came across a post by someone, describing in full detail how to back up a movie using DVDDecrypter, Menu shrink (optional) and DVDShrink.

I had success the first time I tried it. And then something else happened!, I discovered this wonderful forum, and do you know what? I have never looked back.

That old adage, if it ain't broke, then why try to fix it. Everybody will have their own way of doing things and I suspect the time will eventually come when I will have to put my hand in my pocket and buy AnyDVD, but not yet.

DVDDecrypter or DVDFab decrypter still work for me, and always, and always DVD Shrink.

Long live Shrink.

Edit-

By the way, I should mention that I have tried AnyDVD and I agree with Headborg. How do you know its working?

@headborg

You can always exit out of the AnyDVD program when not ripping dvds.

You can also uncheck autostart in the AnyDVD settings, and it will not load at startup and you can then just use it manually when you want it.

You know it's working, when you're able to do movies, that so many others are having problems with.

arniebear is right. Just disable it, until you're ready to use it. Mine stays on, and I don't see any unusual amounts of resourses being used.

You also know it is working when you put a disk in, you can hear it accessing the data and the information of what is on that disk, protection wise, will come up in the AnyDVD screen.

DVD Shrink is not hard just put in the disc, load the external and let shrink do the rest. Nothing to do with Nero at all just load disc's and copy. I've noticed more steps are used by some than really needed and really do not know why? Maybe I'm just old school.
However, what works for some do not work for others....

Sorry, have been unable to swiftly come back to the forum, and sorry again but I'm not saying that AnyDVD is not worth having, Its just that I haven't needed to use it yet. DVDfab decrypter and shrink is working for me, and like I said, if it ain't broke etc.

I will always use AD to look into any problems that I might encounter and I have to add that without all of you out there I and I suspect many others would be lost.

AnyDVD doesn't use a lot of resources I've had it for over a year now and I'm in love with it. I quote member hawthorne.."AnyDVD and Shrink. Tag team for the ages."

wow! i'll keep in mind not to, ever, say anything against Shrink. Around here it is safer to say something bad about your mother and not about shrink,
ihave the feeling i know why: because it is free and great.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.
