solicitors are nothing compared to johova's witness. with sales people you can say no, and they'll leave. these people will sit there and talk your ear off for hours...you literally have to slam the door in their face or piss them off to make them go away.

I haven't seen door to door salesmen in years; even Jehova Witnesses don't do that anymore in Philly though they will stand on street corners and try to sell you their watchtowers. I wonder if they made it illegal here or maybe they just don't want to get shot.
Having studied theology in the past, I use to be merciless to Jehova Witnesses (if I was in that sort of mood). They didn't know scripture so much as they were good at "parrotting" things so they were easy to confuse.

Here's a motion activated sprinkler. This was recently developed near where I live, and is still quite expensive.....add solictors to the list of intruders.

This is what we did:
Ask them to take you off their list. If they say they don't have a list, ask them to make one and put your name on it, then cross it off. Wish them a good day.

You could always ask for their card....make sure it has their home address, phone number on it. Ask when would it be convenient for you to come to their home. Don't take NO for an answer.
Another solution, have something you could sell to THEM. Or make up some chores that they could help you with.
Answer the door in your birthday suit.
If you have young kids, pinch them so they start crying. I know someone who got out of a traffic violation doing this.

we have a law in my town..and its posted..all over
about Solicitors
this is from memery...but its close..
you must stop in our main office and get a license and pay a fee..
as it will be printed in our town newspaper to inform the people
you have a licence to Solicit.
if you do not have a license and the police will check a fine of a $1000 or jail or both.

a hate religious fanatics...I hate anyone who tries to convert me from Atheism. One of the guys knocking on my door was almost mad at me because i said i didn't believe in god. In my opinion, religion is just an exploit in human beings to get them to do whatever the church, or religious figures tell them to. (crusades, suicide bombing,slaughtering nonbelievers, etc). BUT...thats just my opinion. No offence to anyone on AD. You can believe whatever you want. noone should tell you what to believe in.

@mackdl I've use different tactics but just don't want them SHOWING UP in the first place. Don't they understand a man's home is his castle? %$@*)!
@antomic My father was a Catholic altar boy & was the priest's helper (!!). He told me all kinds of terrible things that went on in the system. Mom is Methodist & also participated quite a bit in the church. She was on the choir team.
My parents raised me w/out any religion & let me make my own choices.
I think that says A LOT about free choice. Those who try to "mission" to others are doing nothing more than imposing their views on others. Taking away their right to think as they wish to. Libraries are for exploring the world. Missionaries cut out all the bad stuff (hey, we lynched people a few centuries back but I'm not telling) & sugar coat things to gain a few conversions. Maybe God gives special priviledge in Heaven for how many people are convered? Honestly, I don't have a clue why these people waste their time going door to door. People are starving in Africa. In Europe. In the U.S. But missionaries go around trying to "save souls". WTH??? Go away parasites, find another SUCKER for your poison tongue. I want nothing of your religion.
As for making love & not war, anyone read the history books? That's how the Anglos & Saxons finally got together & settled Britain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo_Saxons Had one of the Anglo King's children not married the Saxon child, today we would STILL probably see war there. (I forget if the Anglo child was male or female, but Wikipedia will give the answer).
