Recently installed a Modbo chip into a v14 PS2 (GH-040-52). Everything worked great for about 40 minutes then the PS2 shut off while in the middle of a game. Now I can't turn the unit on. There is power going to the unit (red light is on), but can't turn the machine on. If I remove the top cover and press the power button, the machine turns on but I can't seem to get the DVD drive to move at all. I just keep getting the browser screen. Is there only one switch to override the door ajar. Is the DVD drive toast? Would it be easier to buy an older PS2 (like a V7 or something like that)? Any suggestions on what to do next. I've opened it up and it looks like the solder job is ok. Thanks.

Make sure that your power/eject ribbon did not come loose. That would be the first place i checked.
If that came loose or out then the drawer would not eject and you could not turn it on with that button. The DVD Drive also has a ribbon there so be careful of that or your drive will not spin.

If you plan to mod another one then here is my suggestion.
1. Get an older model like a V5/6 or V7 (then a hard drive can be easily added later)
2. Get a quality chip rather than that cheap Modbo clone chip which will give you many problems and not many features. (DMS4 Pro SE)
3. have a professional do the work. (unless you feel very confident that you know what your doing)

Cable is ok. This is a slim unit so there is no tray to eject. All other cables are in place.

the modbo is a very cheap quality chip, it worked for me a few times, then it would give me a blank screen when the ps2 was powered up, so i removed it and it worked fine, steimy is right get a better quality chip, if you removed the cover, then turned the system on, and the disk didnt spin, this is because there are two switches, one near the back of the motherboard and one on the power switch, these need to be pressed down, they tell the ps2 that the lid is closed, which in fact is not if the top is off.

Thanks. I'll remove it and see what happens. I will have to buy a better chip I suppose. Thanks again.

DMS4 Pro SE
I know they are expensive. But they are worth it with all the features it has and the great upgrades (free) they they release.
I have the DMS4 Pro in my V12, and one in a V5/6 and have yet to have any problems. You can have a great system if you are willing to shell out a bit more money.
After the modchip you can get an HD Combo case and install the PSTwo into that, and get a compatible hard drive and put that in the new case as well. Then you can play about 95% of your games off of the hard drive rather than the discs which will save the laser and increase the load times.
