Hi, I just joined and hope I can get some help.
Ok, lets begin. My PS2 has always had truoble loading and I would have to set it straight up to help it load. I also had to give it a monthly cleaning by taking it apart.( I was always careful and I know for a fact that everything is intact) I can't load any games, ps1 or 2. the only game that loads is my ssx tricky, whichI haven't even played for more then 20 minutes. My games are clean and polished with barely any scartches on them. Can anyone relate to this problem and help me. Oh, and maybe some help that comes cheap, thanx!

I'm afraid it sounds like your laser is pretty much a dead duck!
You'll need to replace it, but at the cost of 2/3 of the price of a used PS2, I'd suggest getting a pre-owned PS2.

getting a brand new laser is better than a used ps2

Depends where you buy the used PS2. If you get it at a place like Gamestop it is refurbished, which usually means the laser will be new or at leasted tested to be in good working condition.

A new laser is $50, plus the install price, plus the cost of shipping.
A refurbished PS2 is 89.99 with a game included
If it were me of course i would spend $220, why you ask?
Because i would go to Teammodders.com and buy a slightly used V7
(bought from Gamestop or other reputable store) With a DMS4 Pro SE modchip in it.

But before you go out and replace it i suggest you first clean the laser with a cotton swab and some lens cleaning solution. If that doesn't work i suggest you try adjusting the laser. What could it hurt if you mess up as it already doesn't work, right.
If all else fails then you can either replace it or get a new laser installed. Here are ome instructions

Well, I already tried to clean the laser with lens cleaner and I tried adjusting the laser. But no go. I probably just gonna have to buy a new system cause this one is defintely shot. I even tried the auto-diagnosis feature but that didn't help either. So, about these modded ps2's, what's so special about them, I mean what all can they do?

well what you can do is a lot of things really. I will just list a few of the highlights
1. you can make and play back up copies (PS2 games burded to a quality blank DVD)
advantage of this is being able to store your original away and never having it damaged, and other reasons (downloading games) i can not go into for legal reasons
2. you can play PS1 games, & PS2 games from both regions (PAL=Europe and NTSC=USA) with no problem
3. with a DMS4 Pro chips and a V7 PS2 you can easily add a hard drive just needing to have a network adapter. Playing games from a internal hard drive will save the laser and increase the loading times of games. Plus never having to stick in a disc at all is nice too.

the biggest reason for getting a DMS4 Pro chip for most people is #1 & #3
here is a full write up of fetures that the chip (which runs ToxicOS) will give you even if right now you do not wuite understand them, with a little research you will.

All my games are in great condition so I don't need copies made. I'm not buying chips or a hard drive because the dang thing is no good. I don't know if any of that stuff will fix it, so y waste my money on it. I'll just buy a new one I guess. Oh well, Thanx anyways.
