Why don't you just keep using Nero? Do you need burning software or do you need to just copy to your hardrive?

DVD Shrink (you're in the according forum anyway). DVD Decrypter too, but it's been discontinued so you'll find it hard to find a download for it.
edit--
Both are free

There is still freeware available to do what you're after. Dvdfab decrypter, DVD Shrink, and imgburn.

@huey83
see below for freeware downloads and guides for backing up dvds. two main choices: 1. dvdfabdecrypter -> vobblanker -> shrink, 2. ripit4me. for both of these you will need a burner such as imgburn, which is free.

Needed helps with problematic dvds? or just some FREE dvd ripping and burning/backing up tools?
Well, there are tons of FREE tools that can rip any dvds (yes.. even new released) flawlessly, regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS. Below are some very useful FREE tools to have.
<< *FREE* Ripper & Editing tools >>
** DVDFAB Decrypter - one of the best FREE ripper now (takes 12 minutes to rip)
** RipIt4Me - one of the best FREE COMBO/ripper including DVD Decrypter + PSL (12 - 15 minutes to rip)
** VobBlanker - one of the strongest FREE editing tool (2 - 5 minutes to process/fix fake structural, fake cells, dummy vts/pgc, etc. flawlessly, it can "cut, edit, strip and blank" out any scenes/vts/cells or unwanted junks.)
** FixVTS - one of the best FREE junks processing tool (works the same way like VobBlanker, but it "can not" edit or blank out unwanted junks.)
** PgcEdit - a very useful FREE editing tool.
<< *FREE* Transcoding tool >>
** DVD Shrink - (one of the best FREE transcoding engine).
<< *FREE* ISO/Image burning engines from LUK >>
** DVD Decrypter
** ImgBurn
For more info on how to use DVDFAB Decrypter or RipIt4Me, check out the links below:

Ok, I may be pushing my love for Cheetah DVD Burner a bit, but I LOVE IT!! It is the BEST out there. I cannot stand Nero. It has always given me nothing but trouble and it is a huge download. Ugh! I also want to point out that since using DVDShrink I have never run into any encryption problems, and I back-up tons of dvd's. I never get an encryption error and I back-up many from Tri-Star and Sony. I don't recommended DVDClone. It always gives me encryption errors. But DVDShrink is great and it only takes about 2 minutes to analyze and about 20-30 minutes to encode! I am able to backup ANY DVD I want to with DVDShrink.

Ah! I think I misunderstood the question- you are looking for dvd backup software, not a burner. Ok, I use DVDShrink and I love it. It is quick and so easy to use...and FREE!

Am I reading you right?
Quote: I am able to backup ANY DVD I want to with DVDShrink
And you can do just out Sony movies using only Shrink and no encryption remover what so ever? If so, I don't believe it can be done.

Garmoon,
I know it sounds weird, but I was using DVDClone before and was having major problems. I was running into encryption errors left and right. As soon as I switched to DVDShrink I am having no problems whatsoever. I won't say that I won't run into problems down the line, but for now everything has been fine. All my movies complete in about 20 minutes total. Sometimes I end up with a coaster or 2. I don't know why. I use Fuji and Sony dvds.

DVD Decrypter Free tool for ripping (copying) your DVD to your hard drive. Can also be used to write to your DVD media in ISO (image) format.
DVD Shrink Another free proggy which can be used for all different DVD authoring. You can back up your DVD?s with just this proggy and Decrypter alone!

heuy83,
Cheetah DVD Burner is a 15-day free trial. You can see if you like it. It's very easy to use. Simple userface. Very stable. Never crashes. I don't recommend Ulead. I have had nothing but trouble with it. It's horrible. Extremely unstable and crashes left and right. I downloaded Nero a couple of times but it's just way too complicated for me.

You're not using AnyDVD or DVD Fab Decrypter? You can open a Sony Arcoss movie with Shrink all by its lonesome? More power to you if you can!

To Garmoon,
Ok, do Sony movies have their own logo or are they Columbia Tristar?? I am confused. I am able to back up Columbia Tristar. On the arwork cover it says www.SonyPictures.com.

I just backed up 'Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla'. It is a Sony/Tri-Star movie. I didn't have any problems with it. I just went to the SonyPictures website and this movie is listed. So I guess it is a Sony movie. I use DVDShrink to analyze, encode and backup..and then I use Cheetah DVD burner to record to dvd. No decrypter software is needed. But IF I used DVDClone instead of DVDShrink I would need DVD Decrypter.

Is anyone having problems with Sony dvd's? If so what error message do you receive? I have no problem ripping them. But in case I run into a problem I want to know what error message I will receive. Thanks.
