NEED HELP WITH SWAP MAGIC 3.8

I just bought the swap magic 3.8 coder and can't seem to get it to work. I'm trying to play a burned dvd copy of Narutimett Hero 3 on my V4 ps2. I'm pretty sure I'm doing the slide card thing right. I tried refreshing the TOC using an original ps2 game (this is also weird, it wouldn't recognize an original God of War as a ps2 disk. the game works fine. so I used FFX to refresh). I tried using the swap magic cd to load instead of the dvd version. I tried cleaning the lens and loading. Nothing seems to work.

It keeps going to the memory card screen and then to the red screen where it says to load a playstation or ps2 disk. Can anyone help me? I also heard that the 3.8 version doesn't work as well as the 3.6. Is this true?
