AVI freezing occasionally when playing

I downloaded a DVD rip of a movie, and playing it back through my windows media player, I notice that it is regularly freezing for short periods of time and then continuing. There is no interuption to the audio. I am not game to burn it as I believe that it would be a waste of a disk. Any help on this one much appreciated
