I'm really not familiar w/ any of the programs that you've metioned. You may also want to check out clonedvd2 from slysoft.com and Nero as well. Both are excellent.

Is there some reason you picked these four, some of them are not that great. You really should check out the slysoft package of AnyDVD to break encryption and CloneDVD2 to compress and burn if you want pay programs. Otherwise free do the job also and there are any number of them that work great.

thanks for the replies. the reason i am looking at these programs is for the simplicity of use - just put source in and dvd blank in burner and click start. nothing more to do. these commercial ones are all listed on the internet under their brand names i listed. i know there are some free programs but they want to use more than one program, i.e., ripper, copy to hd, then retrieve to burner - also some i have tried will not fit on destination disk. van

The free options are:

DVDFab Decrypter - Breaks all known encryptions while ripping to the HDD

VobBlanker - Removes any protection that DVDFD left behind, also allows you to edit, blank, replace, cut and strip titles

DVDShrink - will compress a movie to fit to a blank DVD-5 disc

Imgburn or DVDDecrypter - will burn your movies onto a blank disc

Ripit4me - look here for more information http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/360110

Stay clear from dvdcloner 3 it's a rip off version of slysofts CloneDVD 2.

If you want to pay then like arniebear said AnyDVD with CloneDVD 2 is the best combo. for beginners

You can not get any easier than AnyDVD with CloneDVD 2

If you want simplicity then use AnyDVD and CloneDVD they are highly recommended and user friendly. Also you can try DVDFab Platinum it is updated regularly to keep up with new protections, and if you use the Express all you do is put in your disk and the program will do the rest. It has a 21 day free trial

http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-fab-platinum.htm

Using the free programs is not that hard, and they do just as good as, if not better, than many of the pay programs. Personally, IMO I would not waste my money on any of the ones you listed other than possibly 1Click and that one needs plugin to break encryption.

let's don't forget to tell spoodle that shrink, fabdecrypter, decrypter, vobblanker, ripit4me, fixvts and IMGBurn are not only FREE but also better than the commercial ones, at least in term of quality output. see you.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

hey spoodle. my two cents: the anydvd/clonedvd2 combo is easiest. put original disk in, process, remove, put in blank dvd, burn. and AnyDVD is kept up to date by slysoft. however, the free methods mentioned (fabdecrypter, vobblanker or ripit4me) are also very easy and kept up to date... ripit4me has a "one click mode" (in, out, burn). you can continue to use shrink with these free programs. there is just a bit of time (20 to 40 minutes?) to download, install, and setup the software for these free programs... and a bit more time learning to use them... depending on how much you want to edit the original dvd (vobblanker has lots of options...). but the basics can be learned very quickly. even i figured it out. if you have a little time and the inclination, maybe try one of the free methods and if not happy you can always buy the anydvd/clonedvd2 combo. best wishes.

Listen to arniebear! The programs you listed may not be so good. But AnyDVD(weekly updates and no learning curve) and CloneDVD2 both from slysoft is simplicity. You can download both from slysoft.com for a free 21 day trial(full programs).

Agreed with all of the above, especially arniebear & pazzini. Below are what I recommend and yes... you won't regret, plus they're all FREE and it will rip any dvds/movies (even new released) flawlessly.

<< *FREE* Rippers & Editing tools >>

** DVDFAB Decrypter (one of the best/top FREE ripper - 12 minutes to rip)
** RipIt4Me (DVD Decrypter + PSL - 15 minutes or so to rip)
** VobBlanker (2-5 minutes to process, blank, edit/cut/strip out any unwanted junks, plus it will fix/correct any structural protections)
** FixVTS (works the same as VobBlanker, except it can not "edit or blank" out unwanted junks)
** PgcEdit (another great and useful editing tool)

<< Free Transcoding engine >>

** DVD Shrink

<< Free ISO/Image burning engines from LUK >>

** DVD Decrypter (both ripper & burning engine)
** ImgBurn

<< For quality >> **NOTE: these are NOT free.

** DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP 2.7 or ProCoder2
** Nero Recode 2 (Advanced Analysis + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie)

There are plenty of free software you can use. And I'm gonna repeat what everybody here is telling you, the best combo out there is AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2. You mention you have been using shrink, so if you really want to buy a softwarae that will work with shrink, get AnyDVD. You have 3 weeks to try it before you buy it. See how the other programs work for you, compare and decide.

Anyway, my two cents. :p

So Shrink does not automatically burn with Nero all you have to do is goto edit, preferences, File I/O and untick the box enable burning with Nero.

When you press the backup button remember to set your output as an ISO image so you can burn with Imgburn.

What version of Nero are you running? The latest upgrade of 6.6 won't burn auto with Shrink, 6.6.0.18 will. Nero 7 has it's bad versions also. Also if you have Nero Suite you can use Nero Recode to recode(shrink) the file and burn auto with Nero. Works like Shrink(same author). You can also use DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD to write and burn the disc.

You can also open the files that Shrink has created and burn them with Nero manually. Don't panic. It's just you have so many options now that you can get past DRMs with AnyDVD.

hi everybody. thanks Pazzini and Garmon for your advice. i did not have Nero Recode checked in Shrink and it still only wants to record using Nero (whick want record as i stated in an earlier post). but listen guys and gals? - i went ahead and purchased Any DVD and Clone DVD from Slysoft and am loving it. records much quicker than freebies i have tried and the quality is excellent. the only complaint i would have is - Any DVD doesn't remove the "warning" sign about fines for reproducing the movie - its still there but i guess im still very satisfied. thanks to everyone who read my post and to those of you who responded. you have been great. thanks, van

Hi,

You may want to copy just the main movie. In clone, just go to "Copy DVD Titles" instead of "Clone DVD"; by default will select the main movie... you may also skip the menus.

There's a guide for CloneDVD in here: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/full_dvd_to_dvdr_with_clo...
