Ok this sucks. I guess Sony is shipping out PSPs without that code on top (the one that mentions 120v and the letter beneath it). The core packs at Circuit City just have the registration code and UPC. I bought one but turned out to be the TA-082 mobo.

I confirmed that I have a "G" version which means I have a 2.01 firmware. Does that mean I am safe and don't have the TA-082 motherboard? When did the TA-082 motherboard start appearing?

Maybe a real stoopid question from a noob, but my psp is a WS259 H 1003 model (as stated on the barcoded area of my gigapack)
I know it's a 2.5.
The problem I have is that according to the guide at the top of this thread, by looking into the UMD Drive and spotting IC1003, this means it is an TA-082.
But mine does not have the writing in the UMD Drive, Does this mean mine isn't a TA-082, or is this not the case?
All help greatly appreciated.

Bought it about 2-3 days ago.
Brand new off e-bay, im sure the guy has bought a job lot and is selling them off cheap (well alot cheaper than in the shops).
Im pretty certain there's no code....will double check again when I get home.
So you think it will be okay to downgrade?
Thanx again.

when I got home I DID double check my PSP and found the IC6001 code to the left, after reading other threads and posts, Im thinking that ive got one that ISN'T a TA-082 and im okay to downgrade, anyone back me up on that?
Woohoo.
Was using the downgrader in Legend999's sig but it says I need GTA to continue, that should arrive tommorow so i'll give it a go once its in my possesion and will let you know how I get on.

ULUS 10041
I understand this is the US version of the Game that can be used to downgrade... Where do I see this on the actual game? I know its on the side of the box. But i might purchase one that doesnt come with a box (used)

The version of GTA you require has a brown UMD with a picture of a gun on it. The patched version is all black, and has no image.
here's the patched:

I just got one today. There is nothing on the motherboard, but the guy who owned it upgraded it to 2.70. Can it bu downgraded at this time, or do I just have to wait?
It's in perfect shape, came with original case, charger, screen cloth, strap, 32MB Sony MSPD, 512MB Sandisk MSPD, for $120.

Well last week I managed to downgrade to V1.5 !
I used the downgrader in legends sig and it was real simple, only took about 5 minutes too!
There were a few places where I was scared i'd bricked it, but it didn't and downgraded perfectly fine!!
Now all I need to do is figure out how to upgrade/downgrade firmware easily so that I can run UMDs and games or use emulators!
But i'll check the other threads for that.
Thanx again Legend999 ! :-)

I'm having problems downgrading my psp. I am trying to use the easy downgrader. I have a 2.60 and I checked the motherboard first. I've formatted the memory stick and loaded the files to the MP root folder on the stick. The gta disc has ulus 10041 printed on the disc. It also says 2.00 in the update section of the umd when loaded. I get to the step where I load the game and instead of getting the menu, the game loads all the way through and starts. I bought the psp and game used without a memory stick. I purchased a new 1gb memory stick to start. I read somewhere that you have to use a 32mb sony stick for this to work. I can't that info now and was wondering if anybody had a solution.
