Hi guys, I've just got my first dvd writer installed but my dvd burning experience hasn't started very well.
The problem started when nero din't recogise the drive, so i updated to 551035. Then i thought I was off to a start, but when it started the lead in my whole system froze. This happened 6 times so i've already wasted 6 dvd-rs. There's one dvd-r that is working for some reason and that was burnt at 2x speed. There was even one that was burning at 2x but stopped at 30%. What's most annoying is that nero doesn't tell me what the error is!

Here's my specs

Athlon XP 2400+
Windows XP
512MB RAM
Two Maxtor HDDs
Memorex 24MAXX1040 CDRW
Sony DW-U12A DVDW

If anyone can help i'd be very grateful.

Try another media brand. I have that burner but have no problems with TDK or Sony. Not cheap but no coasters yet.

Okay I've done a bit of research and it seems this sony drive is very picky. Am i right in saying that the ony 4x dvd-rs that work with it are the ones with purple dyes?..

The dru-dw-12a is capable of burning at 4x with dvd-+ media. I havent tried it yet but I would rather burn movies at a slower speed.
