i wanted to get some advice from my fellow backup artists at afterdawn..which setting produces a better backup for you?
ive tried them both, the max smooth takes longer[you'd think it would be a better backup] max sharp does it quicker. ive watched both the backups through my dvd player and use the svideo out on it to watch it on my normal tv. i CANNOT notice any difference in my backups, what would you put your setting on? and if you have flawless backups, what are you watching them on?

i pretty sure u wont see any big difference on a regular tv probably on a big widescreen HD tv u would see. although people say at AD that some could see some artifacts on thier big screen, i dont know maybe my eyes are getting bad LOL

I dont use any of those settings just deep anlysing and the picutre looks fine on my 56" widescreen HD tv.

im beginning to think im wasting my time with the max smooth setting, although i do have an older pc,im more than happy with the final results, maybe its time to switch back to the sharp setting, its quicker and i cant tell any difference, @least on my tv now...maybe when normal people can afford the hd setup, ill break out my backups on it and see first hand...thanks for the input, its nice to know what other people's results are, especially now with the newer arcoss and puppetlocks

Well, the reason for the two settings are for the compression rates. Allegedly, if the compression rate is 65% or lower, you're supposed to use max smoothness.

For the longest time, I used the max sharp for 65% and lower and thought it was great. However, I started using the max smooth for these settings and now think it's better.

It's all relative. Do whatever the hell you think looks better lol.

And if there's a difference in time, then I never noticed it.
