I recently purchased the two seasons of "Dead Like Me" on dvd. They were sold as two, 4 disc sets. In attempting to make a back-up copy of the series, in case my originals were damaged on destroyed, I attempted to use dvdshrink in back-uping each disc. I found that dvdshrink worked perfectly on the first season's 4 disc set but the second set covering the last season was not as successful, as when I attempted to use dvdshrink to backup the first 3 discs of the second season, during the analysis phase, I got the dreaded "cyclic redundancy error" message for the first 3 discs. However the last disc in the second season was successfully back-uped.

Apropos of that, a friend also attempted to back up the second season of "Dead Like Me" from two seperate sets that he check-out from two of our local libraries using dvdshrink and got the exact same results in which the first 3 discs would not back up due to a cyclic redundancy error but the 4th would. Any suggestions out there as to why this happened and more importantly how I can overcome this problem of the dreaded "cyclic redundancy error."

Could be a problem with the copyright protection. Use DVDFABDECRPTER latest version from here : http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm then open the files with shrink and burn. Works everytime.

Were you using Shrink alone, it is possibly copy protection. Try ripping first to your HDD with DVDFab Decrypter and then process with Shrink. If you still have problems then run the file through VobBlanker and again open and process with Shrink.

As for the library ones, got to watch those as they are often scratched and can have security labels on them that through the disk off balance.
