swap magic fliptop problems...

hey all
i have a fat ps2, with a fliptop installed on it, and a pair of swap magic discs. i have had it for about maybe 7-8 months, and recently it has started to make loud grinding noises and it is also scratching up my swap magic discs very badly. It has never exhibited problems this severe before, and i think it is on its way out. What would be an alternative to the fliptop, to play japanese games and play my backups? right now, i am looking into a premodded system, and also into the memorycard thing.

could anyone advise me on this? I just want something that will play my imports and backups without scratching them to death, and giving me the best experience i can get with my ps2

Geez! You must be beating the sh*t outta your discs! Ive had a fliptop & SM discs since they 1st came out & mine doesnt cause any problems at all.

The only other real alternative you have is gonna be a modchip.

not really,
ive been really careful with it, and i have always taken good care of it, does anyone know what sort of modchips would be good to get in a Premod?
