Hey all, I have done a few XBOX mods over the past few months. During this time I accidentally broke my XBOX motherboard.. So being a true XBOX gamer I went out and just purchased a new system. I ran into a problem installing my Matrix chip. It seems that microsoft had made a few slight changes to the layout of the motherboard and the chip simply put will not line up. Has anyone out there attempted a mod on a newer version system if so what is the seceret to get the chip alligned.

The problem I am having is that where the pogo pins connect to the board it seems that this area is not the same as my original version 1.0 system is.

what part doesn't line up? i just did a new xbox with a matrix and the only problem i had was where the cluster of pins contacts the board, there was no solder in the holes where there used to be solder. so the holes had to be filled. i wrote a small guide on how to do this, it's in the "user submitted guides" section of the forum.

Thank you very much dartnip.... This is exactly what I was talking about. I just read your guide and will be doing some soldering in the morning that you again. I hope this solves my problem...
Good looking out

yeah it should. the guy that had that board tried for a long time to get it to work, he even got the correct green flashing light but it the chip still was inactive during boot. after the holes were filled the chip worked fine.

in some cases you'll get a couple brief flashes of green then it flashes red but it's still good. when lining up your chip what colrs are you getting and what mode are you doing it in? you can also plug the video cable in without the harddrive and dvdrom even in the machine. if you have the color bios you'll see it on the screen when you turn on the machine.

I don't wanna state the obvious but I presume you have flashed your chip? I'm not 100% sure about the matrix but I think it has a small point that connects to the d0 hole to disable the xbox bios. The d0 point on the V1.2 xbox is in a different position to the V1 and V1.1. Maybe you have a V1.2 so thats why the chip won't line up. If this is the case you could just do a bit of soldering work to join it up. Or am I being stupid and you already have a V1.2 compatible matrix? I don't know too much about the matrix because I don't use them.

the V1.2's will work with the matrix but you will have to solder the correct locations. I'm not sure where xbox started making the boards with no solder in the holes, or even what version it is. i was assuming that they are the 1.2 version but i have only dealt with one of them and after filling the holes with solder, it works perfectly. i assume microsoft had the 1.1 version in production when they started to get pissed by the matrix chip and maybe they left the solder out of these holes just to make it more difficult to mod, then the V1.2 came out. If anyone has a picture of the 1.2 version i'd love to see it.

Microsoft stopped filling the holes with solder with the V1.1 XBOX but they only changed the d0 point with V1.2. I guess the people who make the Matrix mod need to catch up. You can still make the mod work though just do a little bit of soldering work to join all the points up. Heres the diagram for the V1.2 d0 point.

Thanks for all the help guys, I traded systems with a co-worker, not gonna try the D0 solder point. Dont want to break another system. He has a version 1.1, no problems with the chip install. Good luck out there for all with a version 1.2
