a VOB file is a dvd file. You have to convert vob's to avi's if you want to edit them in premiere or something.

I used DVDLab Pro last time I did that... worked good

I logged in on March 1st 2005, and it's incredible to believe that in so short time I've learnt all that I know about DVDs from this forum...

rename the .vob to .mpg, see if that will work, otherwise, convert to AVI.

If your original source is tape it is better to first edit your material before creating a DVD. If you have it on DVD and you want to edit, you are better off to convert it to AVI as recommendend by other posters. Here's a step by step description how to do it with freeware: http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/tutorials/dvdedit.php

To edit your DVD Video use "TMPGEnc MPEG Editor" which is the only program I know of which is capable of frame by frame editing of mpeg2 video. You will not have to reencode your video with this program so you will not lose any quality. It will open your DVD video as is in the VOB form. Plus since the program does not reencode the video it only takes a few minutes to process after removing your unwanted segments from your home DVD movie. The program will save the video as mpeg2 and you will have to reauthor the video to make it useable as a DVD again. For this I recomend "TMPGEnc DVD Author".

VirtualDub is my favorite AVI video editing tool. This program is free.
