When i power on the phn without the sim, it won't let me type anything. The screen says "Insert simcard" and if i type anything else, the only option is to clear the text...

Thanks so much

1. Insert a non accepted sim, most times it will show "Phone Restricted"
2. Press the UNDO option
3. You should see a box that says enter restriction code.
4. Enter the code given and then press (OK)

I am having problems with the phone functioning once i unblocked it. It is recognising the new SIM but is not receiving network coverage and sometimes receives text messages very late. Any advice?

It will not work. Wrong Band.
Argentina is on the 850/1900Mhz band.
Vodafone New Zealand is on 900/1800Mhz Band.

kiwiiwi,
MORE!!
The 6101 from Argentina will be in 850/1800/1900 bands.
Vodafone in New Zealand I believe has two mobile services, One on 900 and one on 1800.
Than means that the coverage may be your problem. You may get reception in some areas. you will have to check with Vodafone to find out where you will get coverage on the 1800 band.

Does that mean that even if i can get CTI to unblock it, i will still have problems with the network coverage?

kiwiiwi,
The way things work is this.
Networks may use two frequencies. As you move from one area to another, the phone will automatically switch between the frequencies depending on what is available in the area.
If your phone can only receive the 1800Mhz band, you will have problems in areas where there may only be 900Mhz available.
You need to check with Vodafone to find out what areas they have coverage with 1800Mhz.
That?s about all I can tell you.
It is not a matter of unlocking or unblocking. If you are receiving Text messages at all from Vodafone your phone is probably unlocked.

Thank you for your help. I don't see another way round it but to send the phone back to Argentina and buy a new one.

kiwiiwi,
You may need to do that.
Do check Vodafone first.
Good luck
