Unless you have something to decrypt the disc you won't be able to use DVDShrink to compress it. No, you don't "NEED" AnyDVD but it is the best. You could, however, use DVDFab Decrypter, which will put the disc on the Hdd then you can shrink and burn. Good luck.

ditto re AnyDVD. you might also need to run vobblanker after dvdfabdecrypter and prior to shrink. another option is ripit4me.

hey rayboy,

this combo worked with that movie

1. DVDFab decrypter(Free)
http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

2.VOBblanker(Free) Not always needed
http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

here is a guide for VobBlanker
http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/article_vobblanker_page1.html

3. DVD shrink(free) or Nero Recode2(NOT free)just as good if not better

4.Burn with whatever program u want

Perfect 100% backup of any Movie Guaranteed, OF COURSE with QUALITY MEDIA

DVDShrink does not decrypt! So the source from which you made your back-up had to be decrytped, first, in order to shrink it. Otherwise, your statement is misleading!

I'm sorry if you think my statement was misleading, but the only program I used was DVD Shrink.

Funny, I use shrink first, then decrypter to burn.Works 95% of the time. And I have AnyDVD running as well. AnyDVD works great, spend the $40.00.

Shrink does decrypt. Fab, then Shrink you will be good to go unless you have a bad disc.

DVD Shrink does decrypt, it doesnt burn. It calls on another program to burn (Nero, decyrpter, or imageburn). Shrink doesnt handle the newer encryptions so it only decrypts some of the movies out there. I found out it had its own decrypter way back in the days when i used it with DVD43 at the same time and had conflicts. If you are using shrink all alone with no other decrypter in the background, you will see the key it is using to decode that file.

With some other decrypter running in the background it says "Not Encrypted" when encoding.

Even good old DVD43 got updated recently (last year or so) but shrink will not be updated again, as the creator went to work for Nero and makes Recode now.

If you get a good copy using only DVD Shrink, then you used shrinks own decoder, and it worked for that movie. Not all Sony movies have arcoos, puppetlock, ripguard, bad cells, but many of them do, and for those you would need to use more programs to get a good rip. VOB Blanker, Ripit4Me, AnyDVD, DVD FabDecrypter, etc..
