hi, i want to implement a subtitle into my homemade movie...
the file can be saved as an mpeg or VOB.
how can i implement a subtitle into some kind of menu for one to be able to choose with or without a subtitle present.
if this feat is not possible then just to implement it directly to the file so that the subtitle will be "burnt" in it...

thanks in advance...

thank you TwoHitter the program that you posted is very handy but its not capable of making the movie file and the subtitle file into a single movie file with the subtitle in in like VirtualDub if im not wrong (by the way i never used VirtualDub)
but... if subtitle workshop can creat a subtitle that i can choose to display on a dvd by some kind of menu please help me out here, i just cant figure how to do this.
maybe i need another program that creates the menu thingamegij?

Usually subtitles are turned on or off with the player's remote. What you would want to do would probably reqire 2 versions of the same movie on one disc, one with the subs burned in that you would choose from a 2 choice menu.

If your original source is AVI there are many guides out there for hard coded subs. VirtualDubMod with a few filters will do it, but it will have to re-encode the file. The resultant file can then be converted to DVD compliant form, either with a converter or in something like NeroVision Express. You would add both versions (subbed, unsubbed), create chapter stops and finally your 2 choice menu.

thank you MysticE you've been very helpful, but... :)
i'll try this only if this is the only way it can be done, that is: i can convert the file to .avi and do everything but its a very time consuming process.
what i realy want is to make a dvd with subtitle-enable/disable from the dvd menu just like a retail movie dvd, is it possible?
