Hi josho123
What programs do you currently have? Nero?
There is an option in vision to merge 2 files and vision w/ convert the avi's to a dvd compliant dvd.

Or if your player will play avi's,DVix etc you can burn them as a data dvd.

For free you can try convertXtoDVD - has a free trial but will leave a watermark:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/v...
Or this one which I think has a free trial too:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/w...

Do you have any dvd software now?

You can use Nero Vision than since you have Nero.
Here's a guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946

You can merge the files. After you add the 2 avi's - hightlight them then click the middle button on the bottom right hand side of the screen.

Ok let's uninstall Nero and use this version - 6.6.0.18. Write down your serial #, uninstall Nero, run the clean then install from these 2 links:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html

Package 1
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

Package 2 (recode & vision)
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

I'm guessing you have a dvd burner. You can also pick DVD option on the top of smart start - though that shouldn't make a difference.

sorry i havent got back, but i used that winavi to convert them and it converted them to VOB files. what files would it be cause it made alot of them, but there are only 3 really big files. so it has to be one of them. can i just burn those to a dvd? will they work in my standalone dvd player? or do i need to deo something else to them. thanks for all the people.

I have never found Nero to be well suited to burning DVD's, but maybe thats because it may nor recognize my DVD burner properly. I have always used VSO ConvertXtoDVD. I like the fact that is auto creates chapters, and has a few other options that my dvd players prefer , like autoplay without menu. If i am to burn just one, i use DVD Decrypter to burn, or if i am to burn more than 2, i use DVD Shrink to create iso and alcohol to burn multi copies. Has always worked well for me although aspect ratio had to be played with the first few times
