Hey guys. Please let me know if someone has already said this, but I found a way to use my swap magic 3.6 disks, a piece of tape, and a pair of scissors to mod my pstwo slimline without using the plastic keys or opening my machine and voiding my warranty to do the tape and tissue mod. I stumbled into this method when I recieved my swap magic 3.6 kit and the plastic keys didn't seem to fit or work at all. I thought this might have been because I was using the newer pstwo slimline model, but I guess I don't really know. I did find out through trial and error that my pstwo's sensors didn't know that the lid was open until I had opened it over an inch-and-a-quarter from its closed position. Knowing this I developed this method. I call it the "Tape and Scissors Mod."

1. Get a piece of scotch tape and a pair of scissors (preferably dull).
2.Open the pstwo's lid just enough that you can fit a finger in to pop out and remove a disk (about 1 to 1-1/4 of an inch from closed).
3. Use the piece of scotch tape to tape the lid of the pstwo open to the position previously described. It works better to put the tape on the right-hand side of the machine, in the middle of the right side's edge so it works as a kind of "webbing" that allows the machine to open and close.
4. Insert a swap magic disk by sliding it into the narrow gap that the tape-webbing allows. With the disk's "hole" resting on the middle of the disk-drive place the scissors two cutting blades on either side of the disk (keep them toward the middle of the disk where there is no writing, the scissors are much less dangerous to the disks than they seem and the can easily be substituted with other objects) and push down until the disk snaps in place.
5. Start the pstwo and let swap magic load. When swap magic is waiting for a back-up disk carefully remove the swap magic disk with your finger. Slide the back-up disk into position and use the pair of scissors (or substitute) to snap it into place.
6. Press the button on the pstwo controller to use swap magic to boot up the back-up disk and hopefully it should!

Remember - If the lid is opened too far at any time while the pstwo is on, even if it is only stretched slightly by a probing finger that's trying to remove a disk, your back-up disk will not boot and you will get a "this is not a valid PS2 back-up" message from swap magic. Other than that, if the mod is successful you should be able to leave the tape on as long as you want and also close the lid once the back-up has booted or if the machine is off.

This is my first post so I hope I'm not disobeying rules or repeating the ideas of another thread. I used this fantastic site when I was looking into modding my pstwo and I thought I'd try to give back. Please let me know if you have any problems or questions, as I don't know how this will work on other machines or different models (of pstwo). Thanks!

I have personally done this before, but just to see if the laser was working in someones ps2, using that method for swap magic must be frustrating though, because you have limited space to remove the disk, and eventually your disks will probably get scratched if your not careful.

I have seen this posted a while ago but no one got the idea to use tape to keep it in this position.
