I am new at copying dvd but have some excellent equipment. I have no problems in copying, except when it comes to a letter box DVD. I have a lite on DVD rom SOHD 165p AND a lite on burner SHW160p both with the latest firmware editins. I use Windows XP home edition with Nero software ver 6.0. I also have a copy of 123 copy dvd and Roxio 7.0 nothing seems to work to copy a leter box DVD Movie. Movie in question was Bruce Willis 16 blocks and Ultraviolet. Could you suggest anything??

Your ripping software is OLD. Need more up to date software as protection schemes have evolved beyond what yours can handle. It's NOT just because it's a letterbox movie!

You will need various combinations of software depending on the movie. Google for those you can't find on AfterDawn.

DVD Shrink
DVD Decrypter
DVDFab Decrypter
VOB Blanker
Fix VTS
ImgBurn

These are all free. Others to pay for are available. You will find Guides for most available here or other places on the web.

yeah your software isnt getting it. the movies you listed have the newer Sony ARccOS protection on them which your programs cant handle

but your best bet is to use CloneDVD 2 and AnyDVD together (this is what iam using) the programs update ,you can do all the newer movies(i never had a movie i cant backup with this combo) you can control the burn speed(always burn at 4x or no faster than 8x) and you can re-author the dvd(doing the movie only). its the best program out there heres the link you can download both and use the free 21 day trial before you buy.

remember to use good blank media (taiyo yuden and or verbatim) and burn at 4x starting out on a clean machine without other programs running in the background and the lastest firmware on your drive.

yeah... AnyDVD is the best copy protection removal proggy. every once in a while, they have a discount for them on afterdawn. usually, you can get both programs for 60(30 each) and are the quickest and simplest way to do it. Many people, including me, reccomend AnyDVD.
