Apologies if this topic is already covered.
I have a slimline, flip-top PS2. I have a external USB 120GB HDD formatted with USBeXtreme and own the HDAdvance software. Everything works fine for loading complete games on the HDD (I haven't gone there as of yet) and HDAdvance even sees my HDD as a "flash device". However, the core PS2 OS doesn't recognize the HDD in the "Browser" option and I can't seem to store savegames to it (or transfer savegames to the HDD from the Memory card). I did notice a similar thread to this effect on an internal HD (old PS2's). Is there a non-modding way to do this?

from what I know the ps2 browser only can detect a hdd if it's an original sony hdd.

NTSC DNAS threads.

If the drive was installed internally, I can see how an original sony HDD would be required. But for a USB? The drive itself is Samsung and the case was purchased with the claim that it was gauranteed to work with the PS2 USB port. How does one go about obtaining a "orginal" sony HDD for this particular unit where HDD's can only be added via USB?

Sorry for the double post.
Correction - it is a Seagate not Samsung 120GB HDD

A slimline with a hard drive attached will not see it through the core browser as it does not have the correct software installed and no (I've tried), you can not put in the hdd utility disc to update a slimlines browser to work with it.
It will only show through a fat PS2.

Is there software to do this with the slimline? Or, is there a cable that can be used instead?

There is no way to make it seeable for ffxi nor the ps2 browser (I have personally tried tons of times).

Well, must admit defeat.
At least the 120GB is in a "portable" enclosure and can be used as a Linux playground. Thanks all for your input. Feel free to add anything or if a discovery is made. I will do the same.
