This actually surprises me. I would have expected this one to have the latest protection schemes.

well the only movies that have loads of protection on them are
SONY/Columbia movies, and Disney Movies, all the other movies really dont have the same protection as the sony/disney movies.

Yeah, Warner Bros. doesn't usually put heavy protection on their releases.

Well, I must have a bad press or something because I keep getting errors. DvdFAB + Shrink = "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue....Failed to read file "C:\...VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_1.VOB..
Invalid access to memory location."

Also have tried fixVTS with no success. Different error, but an error nonetheless.

Suggestions?

hallv5 - Have you tried using VobBlanker? Rip the disc to your HD first with DVDFabDecrypter, then process the files through VobBlanker. When VobBlanker is finished, open up the files you got from VobBlanker with DVD Shrink. If this doesn't work for you, then chances are you got a bad press and you won't be able to back it up.

@hallv5

ditto on the using vobblanker after dvdfab decrypter, prior to shrink. you should already have the processed dvdfab file on your hard drive... no need to to that again. just 5 minutes in vobblanker and you should be ready to burn. also, make sure you have the latest release of dvd fab. it should work, as apparently this dvd doesn't have any new/special protection. you might also try ripit4me if the vobblanker route doesn't help.

This may be a little off topic, but is DVD Decrypter still getting updates?

DVD Decrypter will never be updated again. You can still utilize the program with the help of other programs such as Ripit4me or AnyDVD or through the use of PSL plugins.

Yeah, did VOB too. Took me a while to figure out which were the offending files. But, in the end, I've got a viable backup.

Absolutely no problems with this (didn't expect any).

As previously mentioned, WB doesn't put up a fight.

I am trying a different route while processing this movie, I am using GordianKnot(GK) and am having a little trouble doing this one. When the movie is processed to my HD using the divx5 codec, there is an audio delay. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? I think that I found out the length as an approximation of -145ms can anyone else give me some help with this. I have all the other tools such as dvdshrink, but for my taste I have had much better encodes using GK then recoding to VOB using a proggie called DivXtoDVD. All help will be much apprecieated.

@newbies or those that needed helps with problematic dvds/movies

Well, there are tons of FREE tools that can rip any dvds (yes.. even new released) flawlessly, regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS. Below are some very useful FREE tools to have.

<< *FREE* Ripper & Editing tools >>
** DVDFAB Decrypter - one of the best FREE ripper now (takes 12 minutes to rip)
** RipIt4Me - one of the best FREE COMBO/ripper including DVD Decrypter + PSL (12 - 15 minutes to rip)
** VobBlanker - one of the strongest FREE editing tool (2 - 5 minutes to process/fix fake structural, fake cells, dummy vts/pgc, etc. flawlessly, it can "cut, edit, strip and blank" out any scenes/vts/cells or unwanted junks.)
** FixVTS - one of the best FREE junks processing tool (works the same way like VobBlanker, but it "can not" edit or blank out unwanted junks.)
** PgcEdit - a very useful FREE editing tool.

<< *FREE* Transcoding tool >>
** DVD Shrink - (one of the best FREE transcoding engine).

<< *FREE* ISO/Image burning engines from LUK >>
** DVD Decrypter
** ImgBurn

hello all.

i read this post and felt the need to join your group. this is my first post, but i have been following this forum for the past 6 months now. and alkohol's guide has been my bible for the past 4 months.

that being said,

i had the exact same error that hallv5 had. yes, i use the dvdfab/vobblanker/shrink combo. it has worked flawlessly for me for the past 4 months now. but this movie was different. and this was the first movie that i had any issues with. the problem was with the first step, dvdfab decrypter. it would catch an error every time i tried to rip it to my harddrive. the file it won't read is VIDEO_TS\VTS_02_1.VOB
it wouldn't rip with dvdfab or shrink. i tried to rip it with Vob Blanker, but that was a disaster. this is about the time that i originally read this post. problem was, no one offered a working solution in this post.
i thought maybey i had a bad press, so, i returned it and got another. same problem ofcourse. no coincidense that someone in this forum reported the exact same problem.
i tried updating dvdfab, but no update was available.
i almost gave up, and something told me to try AnyDVD. so i downloaded it. BAM! i was able to rip the movie with dvdfab with no problems! Though it bothered me that it took AnyDVD to aid dvdfab in ripping this movie to my hard drive. what happens when the 21 day trial ends, and i come across another movie with this same problem? will i be forced to buy AnyDVD for $40 while the bulk of my rip/burn software is free?
i should let it be known that about a week after v for vendetta was released, an update became available for dvdfab. but since i downloaded and used AnyDVD about two days before the dvdfab update, i am unsure if the update would have fixed the problem without the use of AnyDVD.
now, ofcourse, my AnyDVD is expired. and i continue to use my dvdfab/vob blanker/shrink combo without any problem.
but my question is, what caused the problem in the first place? everyone here was sure there was no special protection in this movie. so why did i need AnyDVD to rip it?

Have you tried RipIt4Me? I just worked through it (out of curiosity) to see if that method worked, and it worked just fine for me. It also ripped fine for me in Shrink too. I don't know if you have a bad disc or if there is something else wrong with it. Someone more knowledgable than myself will come in and say something.

@loudgeo

AnyDVD and DVDFab really shouldn't be used together and I'm suprised that the method you described worked at all. The two can create conflicts when used together. Are you using DVDFab Decrypter or one of the other DVDIdle products like DVDFab Express or Platinum?

dvdfab decrypter 2.9.8.3

anydvd and dvdfab seemed to work well for me. it got me through that immediate problem and i never had any errors or conflicts afterwards.

early this year, before i swapped out to a bigger hard drive, i used AnyDVD with the original DVD Decrypter and that was working well for me aswell. once i read alkohols guide, i figured the original DVD Decrypter would be obsolete and that loading it into my new hard drive would be pointless considering there is no more updates for the software. dvdfab decrypter seems to be updated regularly.
