Hi all, I have a problem with connecting my computer to a laptop using the cabel. OS on my comp is WinXP pro and on the laptop WinXP home. OK, here's what I did, I connected them using the cable, assaigned each of them different IPs and shared all the drives, but I cannot acess laptop or viceversa, it says it doesn't have the permission or something like that, I dont know if I did anything wrong, help would be appreciated.

Im not sure my advice would be that useful to you but i use a wireless network to connect my computers together. If you choose not to go wireless then you could (never done this) use the Files and Settings Wizard that came with windows xp

I checked that and disabled both sygate and windows firewall.
Its weird when I ping one of them the return is 100 % so there's no data loss, but I still cant transfer anything.

Did you use a crossover cable to connect them? As your not going through a hub/router, and literally connecting comp 2 comp you need to use a crossover cable in order for it to work.

Try to access shares by IP address: \\192.168.1.13\share1
When windows asking you for account name and password pops out, type $RemoteCompName$\Guest (or Guest equivalent in your language) and leave password blank.
