Hi now that you pose the file format x264/H.264, so I think it's necessary to talk about the x264/H.264 in order to let most of people know about it.
1,What is H.264?
Well, simply speaking, it?s a kind of video format, we all know video formats like MPEG-2,DivX and XviD. H.264 turns out after them, it?s more advanced codec, because it aims at achieving same video effect with DivX but in half size of DivX.
X264. An open source way, you have to key in command manually. But it has one advantage, it?s being used extensively in many free progammes like SUPER, Fairuse Wizard, and various other projects.
Certainly there are many others, like MainConcept H.264 encoder, Sorenson and VSS, but compared with rippers listed above, they are either too expensive or difficult to operate.
If you want to convert H.264 to DVD , you can choose Fairuse Wizard and Xilisoft Video Converter 3.2.which also supports converting video files between DVD, VCD, SVCD, MOV, RM, AVI, MPEG, WMV, 3GP, h264 etc.
If you are going to throw H.264 and MPEG-2 together then there you really shouldn't mention brands/implimentations such as DivX and XviD. In that context they are both just ASP MPEG-4 Part 2.
FairUse Wizard can convert a DVD to an AVI containing x264 video (wouldn't recommend AVC in an AVI container myself), but it can't do the reverse and I wouldn't recommend anything from Xilisoft.
