I've spent the last week researching the web till my fingers are blue. I can't believe the lack of info/guides/tutorials regarding the dms3 chip and Using internal HD to boot games. I've been on dozens of forums and several consol hack sites and almost everywhere assumes a certain basic knowledge of how to use elf files and dev modes. I love my PS2, much more than my xbox and/or gamecube but there are tutorials and step by step tut's galore for those systems. I wish that I could get some straight answers regarding my PS2 and dms3 chip. Afterdawn has never failed me before (PSP and Gamecube questions) so let me give it a try on the ps2 forums:

I have a DMS3 chip
I have an installed Interal HD. (just a 30gb for testing)
I can install HDD-Explorer 1.31 and I've install DMS Explorer and I know how to boot to them (holding /\ and start) but I have no idea how to load my dvd's onto the drive and run them from there. I'm completely lost with the FTP stuff and with the partitioning of the drive. Please can somebody help me. I do know how to use FlashFXP but I don't know where to send files or even how to run elf files from my ps2. What is DMS Explorer used for? It only lets me go to my ps2 browser. I don't need DMS Explorer for that, I can just boot up my ps2 and get there easily. You can see I'm a complete noob so please be nice and don't give me the "use the search button" answer. I've done so. All week. Can't find answers to my questions. Thanks in advanced.

I don't know how to solve you rproblem, but if I were you I would just get HDLoader or HdAdvance...very handy programs, and you can usually can get them for relatively cheap.

I already have my system modded and its suppose to be able to load games straight from the HD. Why would I spend more money when my chip already supports this?

Ok I went out and bought HDAdvance with seems to work great. However, I hate booting to the bloody DVD everytime I want to load a game from my HD. Is there a way to install HDAdvance on DEV1 (memcard) or dev2 (Hard drive) so I can just turn on the PS2 and it will go right into HDadvance?

try the DMS Forums or writing the Toxic Team
Your chip is outdated, that is why you will have trouble finding information on it. Most of the newest hard drive features came along with the flashes for the DMS4 Pro.
Sorry, links were about the best i could do to help, but the DMS3 site does have an HDD Explorer program & DMS Explorer program.

THanks for your help but I've already spent days on the DMS3 forums. I can't upgrade to dms4 right now. No funds. Does anybody know how to install hdadvance on dev modes?

and you have tried the HD Loader that they mention in their posts?
How about your firmware, is it the last one that was released?
I think it was called Upgrade 2.4B4 (2.4 Beta 4)
http://web02063.prolocation.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7687
There is other beta versions like 2.4B6 and 2.4B7 but people reported problems with Beta 7

The DMS sites will be your best bet for getting helf from people who may actually have had the same problem as you did.

Yes I'm using the latest beta bios and I have HDAdvance which is the upgrade to HDLoader. I tried everything that are in those posts. I'm looking for someone to reply to this thread who actually has a DMS3 and is currently playing games off the hard drive. Please tell me the steps that you have followed to accomplish this. I'm not trying to be rude and I'm extremely grateful to all of you who have attempted to help me by pointing me to forums and giving me general help but please don't respond with speculative ideas and suggestive concepts. I need someone who knows exactly what to do to make this work. I assure you that I've been to the forums that you will point me to. You can tell that I'm somewhat desperate at this point. I really want to hear from someone with some concrete answers. No disrespect to those that have tried to help allready. I really do appreciate your attempts to help.

That is why you should ask and look for answers at the DMS Forums.
You are much more likely to find someone there who can help you.
Since that is the official site for DMS chip help. And all the people there have DMS Chips.
I know they do not get a lot of trafic and sometimes it can take days to get answers, but it is really your best hope.

I've been all over the dms forums... dozens of times. Most of the posts there are outdated. I don't think anybody really hangs out in the DMS3 forums anymore. I really don't want to upgrade my chip because it still works great. I just need to find out how to load HDAdvance onto the mem card so I don't have to boot it from the cd everytime. Is there anybody that knows how to do this?

You have to load HD Advance onto the memory card by using the FTP browser, or by using an install script (which I think is easier). I forget at the moment where directions are for that, but I remember seeing them earlier this week.

From what I remember, you burn a CD with the install script and the HD Advance program, and the script then copies the program to the memory card.

From there you should be able to hold down a button and boot directly to the program.

I'm installing a DMS3 chip into a v9 system later this week. If you figure the memory card thing out, post how you did it here. Otherwise I'll do it and post how when I figure it out.

Did some looking, HD Advance and HD Loader are different. You want HD Loader to install on a memory card, not Advance (since it's a retail product).

It looks like you need to copy the HD Loader ELF file as mc0:\boot.elf, or something like that.

I've got HDLoader running beautifully off the mem card but is there a way to crack the HDAdvance to make it an elf so it can load? I'd hate to find that I wasted my money on this one.
