I want to know if it is possible to play backup cd-r's/dvd-r's on my PS2

I have:

A PS2 version 4 PAL
Action replay 2 V2.33
No modchip
Flip lid case thing

Basicly, can I play backup games on my PS2 without a modchip. And if so, how do I achieve this. I appreciate you spending the time to read this post.

Many thanks,

Hexecal

look up ps2 knife trick on the net. There's a chance you might be able to.

If he's got a flip top lid, then he won't need to do any knife trick. Besides, knives are for cutting food, not sticking into the PS2.

Yes, you can boot games on your PS2 with your current collection of apps etc..
You'll easily be able to boot CD based games, or DVDRips on CD, but will require a bit more work for DVDs.

Booting CDs:

1. Load up the AR2v2
2. Choose to 'Start game without codes'
3. Use fliptop to swap AR2 disc for CD backup
4. Press X, game will load.
NOTE: With AR2 you can only boot games up to a TOC size of 74 mins, same as the Swap Magic CD.

To boot DVDs you'll need to download & burn CDLoader from http://www.swapmagicfix.com and do a TOC refresh with an original store bought high TOC DVD game such as Devil May Cry.

Booting DVDs:

1. Load up AR2v2
2. 2. Choose to 'Start game without codes'
3. Use fliptop to swap AR2 disc for CDLoader
4. Press X, CDLoader will boot. (Note it says PS2 CD in bottom left corner)
5. Press Triangle, drawer of PS2 will open
6. Put in your High TOC DVD game, wait a few seconds until it says PS2 DVD in bottom left corner, then press X.
7. On next screen, use fliptop to put in DVD backup.
8. Press & hold X until the screen disappears, game should load if your original DVDs TOC was bigger than the TOC of your backup.

For less hassle, you'd be better off getting Swap Magic though.

true but, if he looked up knife trick then he would get the procedure of how to swap and I'm sure he could've figured out on his own that instead of using the knife to open up the tray he'd just open up the flip to swap the discs. Then again, maybe he wouldn't have figured out when to swap since most people seem to need having people hold their hand and walk them through it.

I'm just going to backup splinter cell and try loading it.

BTW - can somebody let me know what TOC is? (I know, n00b right?)

Is it the size of all the files on the disc?

Question : Will DVD-RW's work aswell?

I have managed to get a CD-R copy of "The Sims" and "Robot Wars" to work (Loaded from CD loader - not AR2 menu)

I tried a DVD-RW of "Splinter Cell" by using "Metal Gear Solid 2 : Sons of Liberty" as a Higher-TOC disc - It didn't work. I'm not sure if it's because of Splinter Cell (I read about some ZoneLoader thing) or if it's just my DVD-RW's

Thanks for reading!

probably the rw since most ps2 systems have trouble reading the rws (specially older models like the one you have).

I've owned 2 PAL v4's and neither could read RW discs, so I doubt your's will be able to either.

OK, I'll buy some DVD-Rs tmorrow and report back :D

Thank you for all the help anyway. It means a lot that dummies like me are still respected, even when we don't understand the manual, lol.

Thanks a bunch!
