First, I am glad I found this forum, looks like a very informative place.

Second, I apologize in advance if I should not have posted this topic in this location, but I did not see this exact issue on a quick review of the site (I may have missed it), but thought I would start here.

I have an old Sony 8MM Analogue Camcorder. I recently became interested in trying to convert my old analogue tapes to a digital version. My first attempt to try and do this was I purchased a Plextor Convert X kit (PX-AV100U).

I am running Windows XP on a Dell Desktop, and the install and initial set up seemed to go well. I have been able to convert a tape to my computer, and edit and put a "new movie" together and burn to a DVD. DVD that I burned works fine and plays normally in my traditional DVD player.

The challenge I am having is that the other thing I had hoped to be able to do with this software was to also export a file to be able to send friends and relatives short video clips. Thought I was home free, when I found that I could export clips as .mpeg files. Problem I have is that the .mpeg files that the Plextor software creates, will only play on my PC that the Plextor software is installed. I am unable to play the clips on other PC's.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Also any good way to condense a video clip? I created about a 5 mintue clip from a recent vacation, and it is 231 megs.

Thanks to anyone in advance!

And as my name says....I am a Novice!

Thanks!

Try processing that MPEG through Windows Movie Maker and convert it to a Windows Media Video file. You'll end up with a compressed file small enough to email and with decent quality. You can play with the settings to get bigger or smaller sizes.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?
