I installed a modchip (Duo3 in PS2 v13) and while I was testing it I placed a screw driver on the rear micro switch because the tape had come lose. When I went to change my backed up version God of War, the screw driver slipped and made a small spark on the drive. The console rebooted but after that the drive wouldn't spin.
The laser does it's checking, but it's like it thinks there's no DVD. PS2 works and I can browse MC, but the drive won't spin.
Anyone know if there's a way to make the drive think there's a DVD there?
Any other advice?
Anyway to get it working some how with a HDD and without a working DVD? Don't know anyone who has a PS2 either?
Thanks!
PS: Creds to people who have successfully modded their PS2 slimline... it's damn hard.

Well then from my point of view what must have happened is that when the spark went off it sent a high (or at least higher than usual) voltage shock to the laser which damaged it and would explain its inability to read DVD's.
Have you tried playing a CD game or a music disc?

I tried playing a CD.
The drive does exactly what a normal drive does without a CD/DVD. So when I close the CD lid switch the laser moves into position (center of disc) gives a high intensity beam folled by less intense ones then it stops as if it didn't find a disc.
Yeah it sounds like you busted the laser, you should be able to buy one here:
