I have been using DVD Shrink for awhile now with absolutly no problems.. now all of a sudden for some reason when i try to backup a dvd it goes sooooooo slow its almost ubnearable.. it use to fly.. it would take like 30 mins total for the whole process. I dont know if a setting was pushed accidently or what. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program twice now to see if it would clear up any problems but it hasnt helped. Its still doing the same thing. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be and what i need to do to clear it up? Thank you soooooo much.

Debby72,
Welcome to the forum. Go into Device Manager and see if there are any Yellows flags. Sounds like the system has reverted to PIO Mode and it needs to be in DMA.

You might also d/l a free Registry Cleaner and clean out the registry of and conflicts. The conflicts cause the OS to downgrade the Burner down 1 knotch for each 6 errors.

What type of movies are you trying to back up? Newer ones, old ones? Dvdshrink will give you problems with the newer dvd's. Try ripping the dvd with dvdfabdecrypter first:

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Once this is done, open the folder with shrink and carry on as usual.

One of the most important things to do if you are backing up movies is defrag. If you don't defrag regularly, you may end up with a jacked up copy(Run ccleaner before defrag). I use the 2 hit combo about once every 10 days because I backup alot of movies!!!

i run it about once a week, but i do a lot of burning too and the defrag helps for the constant deleteing and ripping of files

Ok i have ran ccleaner and defragged and it is still doing the same thing. Going very very very slow. I noticed when it is encoding that next to where it says Encryption Status it says CB:E5:OE:47:24

I dont remember all these letters and such being there before, of course i could just not remember that they were there... Does this help at all to figure out what my problem could be?? thanx guys.

2 things

refer back to what car.mike said because your system is in PIO mode.

You need to d/l the program fab decrypter. Use the link that Degenx posted. Shrink needs help because its not updated anymore and can't copy most of the new releases.

BTW, what movie are you trying to backup>>>

I will try this again but i went thru all of the settings and they all say DMA if available. I have been backing up several different movies. Basically if they are going to be viewed by the kids i back them up because my kids are terrible with dvds and i dont want to have to buy them again! lol

Most of the new kids movies have macrovision rip. and sony arc. protection. You def. need to get a copy of fab decrypter(free) or anydvd(21 day trial) to be sucessful. You have no shot at most of the disney movies with shrink alone!!

Debby72 ,
You are fine w/ DMA 2. Are you using DVDFAB Decrypter and ripping the DVD to HD first? After you rip it you need to use VobBlanker to correct the structure problems. Then you use Shrink on the structurally corrected files.

You can use the 21 day free trial offer of AnyDVD and rip the DVD to HD and then use Shrink

You can also use Ripit4Me and rip the DVD to HD and then it will automatically bring up Shrink.

Which of the above methods are you doing??

oh wow.. that REALLY confused me lol... I dont do alot of backing up as you can tell! All i do right now is put the original dvd in the dvd burner drive then i click on analyze and once that is done i click backup and it starts encoding and then once that is done the drive pops out and asks for a blank dvd and i pop it and and it backs it up to the dvd R. Every so often i go into the folder where the movies are backed up to and dump it all so its not all taking up space on my hd. Please let me know if i am not doing something right and i TOTALLY appreciate all of you alls help. Thank you so much.

Debby72,
Shrink has not been updated in 3 years so the decryption engine does not work on any thing new. That is why you have to do it the way I said. Sorry but that is the only way to do the newer movies

new movies have newer copy protection schemes. DVD Shrink hasn't been updated so you cant crack these types of copy protection. d/l the trial of AnyDVD. just let it run in the background. you can get a trial from http://www.slysoft.com . run it in the background when running DVD Shrink. see if that helps. also, try copying one of your older movies and see if the speed is still slow. because it might be hardware related then.

Or use dvdfabdecrypter like i said earlier, which is free and no trial at all. This will rip the files to your hardrive, just like DVD Shrink makes a backup folder of files on your computer. Once dvdfabdecrypter is done, you can open the folder containing the dvd movie files with dvdshrink. Dvdshrink will work as usual.

One other thing I forgot to mention, dvdfabdecrypter will make 2 folders: audio ts and video ts. Just delete the audio ts folder because its empty anyways, then open the video ts folder with dvdshrink.
