i have just finished backing up Halo 2 to my hard drive.i went to launch it but all that came up was 'there was a problem loading the game your disk maybe damaged or dirty'. but when i play halo 2 with the disk it is fine. can someone tell me why it is saying this.

thanks

by the way i did not copy over the campaign maps onto my hdd cos i have the retail hdd. ( a tutorial said it was not nesseceary if you only want to mod multiplayer maps)

You're probably missing some necessary files then.

Here's what you should need.

bink (folder) - intro_60.bik and attract_60.bik
maps (folder)- fonts folder, multiplayer maps, mainmenu.map, and shared.map.
media - entire folder

The only file you need outside the folders is the default.xbe. Don't worry about the update, downloader, and dashupdate folder.

Should only take up about 1.2 GB. The attract_60.bik *might* not be necessary. I just figure it should be kept so if you leave your Xbox sitting on the Halo 2 main menu for a while you don't have to worry about the game looking for it.

Thanks goes out to theridges for the userbars :)

thanks all. I found the problem, the font files were in the wrong directory. I have got halo 2 running now and am in the process modding it.
